My Granddaughter just loves this, a good excuse for us adults too, regular trains running 6 days a week (not Mondays) and 11 months of the year (not February, but check to make sure). Great way to relive childhood and travel into Minehead, the view of Dunster Castle from the Train worth a trip as is running along the sea shore at Blue Anchor.

As regular and local visitors to WSR, today was another wonderful day as expected! It's lovely to travel through the beautiful West Somerset countryside, and be transported back in time on this thoughtfully preserved railway. As most other reviews note, it's the staff that really make this a special day, with Doreen and Ken providing the fast and efficient service at the Buffet near where we were seated today, and providing our 2 yr old nephew with good, sound career advice (William the architect)! Thanks again WSR

From watchet we parked the car in the all day carpark for less than a fiver and we got a return ticket to minehead for just 12.50 each and 2.00 for the dog . For 17.00 u can get a ticket that allows you to stop anywhere and hop on and off in different places at your leisure but for us a day at minehead shopping, a walk along the seafront with chips and a round of crazy golf was perfect with the highlight being boarding and riding on a proper old steam locomotive going along the somerset coastline. Watchet and minehead stations are both very well kept, extremely clean and full of old fashioned memorabilia with all the staff in matching character like a step back in time . All in all a relaxing day out with the option of plenty to do for all ages . My mum who has a heart condition which is somewhat restrictive where movement can be an issue if any strain is involved had no problems as everything was on the flat and there are 2 entrances to watchet station so instead of going over the main bridge there is a footpath that crosses the track at the far end of the platform from the back of the long stay carpark. I think for the adventurous I would say go fir the free roaming day ticket at 17.00 and make a few stops along the way but minehead is a nice place with plenty to do. I strongly recommend a day out on this railway

It is a great place on the end of the wonderful Steam and Diesel line, worthwhile buying a round trip ticket and getting on and off - watch the timetable to see how long you have though. Easy to waste a long time on this train and in the museum. Not just for train spotters....

Used the steam railway last week, very enjoyable experience, staff were friendly, refreshments reasonably priced and the train itself was excellent. Highly recommended.

The staff were great and the local countryside beautiful. It is a little pricey but rover tickets help make it cheaper.

Caught the train from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead. Used the day rover so we could get on and off as we pleased. Great value for money would recommend.

A brilliant day out stepping back in time. The stock is immaculate, the line and buildings are picture postcard perfect and the staff have the glow of people who really enjoy what they are doing. Study the timetable and plan the best use of a day rover ticket. In this way you can travel behind different locomotives and stop off at the picture book stations along the line. We started on the first train out of Blue Anchor heading to Bishops Lydeard where we were able to get out and walk around the station. The view from the bridge really reminded me of the Thomas the Tank Engine books I first read fifty years ago! We caught the same train back to Watchet where we got off and had some time in Watchet (visiting the excellent PatioTea Garden). We then got the train up to Minehead at the other end of the line before returning to Blue Anchor. The cost for the day rover was only £17 (look out for special offers). Don't miss the bookstall at Minehead station.

Lovely steam railway. This is one of the best steam railways that I have been on and is excellent value for money. If you plan your trip well you can get off and on again at most stations having had time to visit the local attractions. Beautiful views of the beaches and countryside as well as extremely courteous service make this a wonderful day out. It is well worth visiting Doniford Farm only approx 100metres from Doniford Stn as well as the beautiful village of Dunster which is approx 20min walk from Dunster Stn. The train is extremely clean and also has a buffet car.

Stunning heritage and relaxing ride. We didn't get off at any stations to roam as it rained but it was lovely to see our green and pleasant land. Some lovely little touches in some of the stations- old suitcases piled up, old bikes, beautiful flowers. It may seem boring to some but when you have lived in Cyprus for 3.5yrs which is sandy and barren, you really appreciate what this country has to offer. We brought the tickets half price from Groupon so £15 for 2 adults and a child for a day out without getting wet was in my opinion a total bargain. We chose a steam engine specifically as daughter mad on Thomas the tank. Her trains came along for the journey too. Minehead is a let down but the station was large and housed many trains from diesel to steam. Plenty of Thomas merchandise too. We took a packed lunch which we ate on the journey- they didn't mind as we left no mess. Bishops Lydiard is a very pretty little station with a little café. 20mns stop before you get back on the train so enough time to stretch those legs and grab a drink although there was a buffet car on the train. Train staff lovely also as all volunteers.Highly recommend

The steam trains are awesome . Every body is happy . The whole trip took 1hour 10 mins. [one way].It was not overly expensive as all profits go towards the up keep of the trains and stations.
