We dropped in at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon, to be told that the gardens were closing at 5pm, and that we would be expected to pay full whack even to get to the shop or the restaurant. We found it very strange that a revenue source on a wet and grey afternoon would require a further fee to be spent!
It is such A joy to walk among the beautiful gardens and see the wonderful plants and flowers. Could easily spend a whole day there. Definitely need a map as it's easy to get lost especially in the maze. I think we are really lucky to have such a place of peace and tranquillity so near to the hustle and bustle of Enfield Town area. Great just for a walk to relax or as an educational trip for plant and garden enthusiasts.
it was alright good service food was slightly hot wouldnt mind going again only if i had to !!try for your self !!!!
If you want a gentle stroll through an interesting range of gardens, then don't miss Capelmanor! It is like walking through a village and learning about garden fashions as you go. The experimental area is fascinating.
Capel manor is a lovely place, I visit very often, such nice surroundings.Im looking forward to Enfield s battle of the bands competition there, it should be one of the most spectacular events Enfield has rver seen, always a pleasure to visit
We live fairly near here and love the gardens the little restaurant is very nice to . We also take our grandchildren for hallowe'en or Xmas they love the tractor rides and making things . It's lovely in the summer you can sit on the seats and look at the lovely views .
Visited capel manor sunday 7th December mainly to see father christmas with our grandson. Found him in the middle of the maze where it started to rain. Last year he was in the main house which was much better and drier. There was a bubble machine in the garden which had the effect of looking like snow. The children loved this. Best part of the day. Craft fair not aa good as previous years. Magic show held in the main house which was very good. Due to the rain we did not see much of the gardens but what we did walk by most looked like they needed work done on them.
Lovely gardens for the flower enthusiasts and exotic plants for the keen gardener whetehr amateur or professional. Animals to visit to keep the kids happy and a very good cafe/restaurant..
We were advised to visit by our granddaughter who attends college florists course. We had lived in Enfield for 40 years but had never visited the gardens but wish we had. We were amazed at how big it was.
What a delight it was to spend a whole morning touring the grounds of Capel Manor. This is a real gem and costs very little to get in. The gardens are well signposted and there is a lot to see and do for people of all ages. The students who attend the college based there do a good job in looking after the gardens and there is also an area where Which magazine trial variorum plants. Well worth visiting, we will go back at a different season.
This summer I found what I consider a hidden gem. I love gardens...I've visited major garden shows; spending hours traipsing round trying to squeeze through the crowds...But, hooray at Capel Manor Gardens you don't have to. You can wander, at your ease around the 30+ acres - much of which dates back to the 13th Century. There are loads of small themed gardens to visit within the grounds, lovely areas for picnics - and also a pleasant cafeteria. Staff ( and students of Capel Manor College) are helpful and knowledgeable - So if you've questions about your own plants ask away. Before you leave visit the plant store - just behing the reception desk for some amazing bargains.
This is a surprising sanctuary about whose entrance is around a half a mile from junction 25 of the M25.The best way to describe the garden is to say it is parkland that surrounds a manor house. The gardens are effectively the training ground for the horticultural college that is based on the site. So the majority of the grounds are immaculate. I say majority as some parts are poorly maintained. Sadly, like many UK attractions loose interest in maintaining things and are more interested in the "sexy" new design stages. As this is an operational college the site is not open all year round. During their full open season they also hold special events (craft shows, vintage car shows etc). The gardens on display include former Chelsea Flower show award winners, "Which" report trial gardens, themed gardens of various sorts, rose gardens, a walled kitchen garden...the list goes on. We have found that every year we have visited they have added a new themed garden/s.Capel Manor college also runs courses for the care of small mammals and the animals under their care are on display. These include meercats !The restaurant on site provides what can only be described as school dinners. Good and reasonably priced, but not "Michelin".Other attractions nearby :Myddleton House gardens (free, but parking charge)Enfield Museum of Transport (entrance charge, restricted parking, check for opening)Forty Hall and parkland (free, check for opening of house)Crews Hill - an area with 6 large garden centres.
Capel Manor gardens are a hidden gem in Enfield. Anyone looking for inspiration for their own garden or just wanting an escape into a green oasis for a few hours should make the trip here. The gardens are laid out over a large area so cover a multitude of styles. There are seasonal events too so it is worth checking online before planning a visit. Also worth noting that there are 2 other great venues very nearby at Forty Hall and Middleton House.
… well maintained and varied gardens, excellent way of spending a relaxing day out, tickets reasonably priced.
Had a nice leisurely stroll around Capel Manor in the sunshine (for the most part). This is a lovely place to spend a few hours. Beautiful gardens, ponds, a maze and a small animal section with everyone's current favourite animal the Meerkat. Could do with improving the restaurant though from what we could see.
