We popped in for a look around the house as it was opening weekend of the new Season & despite having been coming for years, Burghley never fails to wow me. The room access is even better, we can now walk all round the Billiard table & get a view over the front circle driveway. The great dining room has had it's table removed & looking from within the room you get a very uplifting feeling looking up at the walls & ceilings, after years I got a view that was totally different. The staff & room guides are the best I've encountered, soooooo wonderfully knowledgable, friendly & unstuffy. 'Horrible History' style guides & quizzes for little people & guides ( if you want more detail) for the die hard. Orangery is a treat, great food, afternoon tea & can highly recommend the cakes & Prosecco! Shop has a great 'buyer' well done! I'm going on I know but Burghley IS fabulous! PS; if you're into Scuplture, the garden of Surprises & park are great for all ages. Well done Burghley, you've pulled the rabbit out of the hat....again! PPS; don't forget to visit the round fish pond in the Orangery garden, they have whales in there!!!!!!! ;-)

I've visited Burghley Park several times in all sorts of weather and have always enjoyed it. I've been into the house once and found it very interesting. The grounds are beautiful, and it's great to be able to walk so close to the deer herd that they have in residence.

Morning time is best! I was recommended this as a historic cultural main sight in Stamford and surrounding areas, and indeed the grounds are beautiful. Approaching the house itself one is left wondering what Cromwell must have thought about it as he came upon seizing it in the 1600s. Its grand and gothic like. The sculpture park which I think is newer is very impressive too.

We visit Burghley on a regular basis. I think we are so lucky to have this on our doorstep. It is free to park and free to walk around the main park. I take my dog for lovely walks and always find everyone very friendly. Great for a picnic. Great for doggie walks. Great for children. Expensive if you want to use the Garden of surprises etc.

As it was winter the house was closed to visitors but a walk in the very pleasant and extensive grounds is a must. Keep an eye out for the large numbers of deer that roam in the park. The views of the magnificent house and lake make the walk very worth while

Burghley is billed as one of England's finest Elizabethan houses, and maybe it is on the outside, but the interior has been drastically changed over the years so that there is little Elizabethan to see inside. Quite a few good paintings, but very little is labelled in the rooms, so without an audioguide or the guidebook it is easy to miss things. Very irritating that the chapel is closed off making it impossible to appreciate the Veronese altarpiece close up, and very annoying that the formal gardens are not open to visitors.

The house------glorious. The parkland...beautiful....The deer....mesmerising. We visit often at all times of year. This venue is free unless you want to go into the house but for us the wonderful walking opportunities in such lovely countryside are the draw. The lake is lovely too with iconic views of the house from the bridge together with silvery fronds of reeds, the unravelling cotton-like heads if the bulrushes and the indigenous water fowl residents to provide entertainment. If you have never visited and either live in the area (we are 30 miles away) or visiting do not miss this free, fabulous and magical place. The deer are always there, providing a majestic quality to your photos. Just wonderful!

We live nearby but make the most of going there when we have family/friends visiting. It's great for all ages, the kids can let off steam and the elders can simply enjoy the stunning house and gardens. Great for everything from sledging in the winter and sunbathing in the summer!

House is closed in winter but the extensive grounds are free to enter. Large herd of deer roam so dogs on leads but still worth an hour or twos ramble.

An awesome day was spent in the garden of surprises. We were lucky with stunning weather so of course the day was bound to be good. I took a group of 5 kids, varying ages. All had a superb time splashing in the water features and exploring the amazing sculptures. It is a fantastic way to familiarise kids with art and architecture. Plenty of space for the kids to go crazy yet not disturb anyone else.
