Walk out of the pub door and straight into spectacular terrain - what more can a hiker/biker ask for?

The walk from Hope via Peakshole water is excellent, high above the river to begin with then level and close. Mam Tor always in view in the distance. Can return from Castleton same way or along the path by the roadside.

The exhibits etc give a very good indication of the types of industry and life in Castleton. There were things that don't interest me but plenty that did. The shop was nicely laid out and my brother took advantage to buy a couple of things for his home.

Have been there in the winter. Amazing fields covered in white, walking in the snow up hills or along the main roads while seeing the beauty around is a true experience. Two attractions are located up the mountain behind the village - Peak Cavern, and the Peveril Castle

Especially in Winter with the frost on the ground and trees, the old houses, and the pubs. The village has a great atmosphere!

Walking through Castletown is like going back in time. The streets, building and the castle ruins on the hill evoke a period in time still prevalent today.

I have visited here on many occasions over the years, always around the xmas period when all the trees and lights are on and I can think of nowhere else that has the special xmas feeling that Castleton gives. Well recommended at xmas. It always seems to snow when I visit !

As a regular rambler, parking in a village can be difficult. However, I headed straight for the local pub and there was plenty of street parking. I was advised that this village had the best fish n chips. I took this as a cue to try the local busy chippie. The food was okay but nothing exceptional. There are a good selection of local shops selling crafts and locally produced foods. There are many gift ideas here. I was made to feel very welcome in the area whilst walking my dog around the village peering in the shop windows. The shops close around 5pm so it would be ideal to visit here earlier.

Hope to Castlton footpath is very nice , walking alongside the river for most of the way.The road doesvget busy and noisy. Several stiles to climb and could be muddy at times

Although Castleton is set in some of the nicest countryside in the Peak District and is perfect for walkers I don't think much of the town.It has a few good caves to visit, a lovely village church and superb mountain pass which is a must see and drive through, I found the town had mostly souvenir shops and we could find no real shops or main stores. It has a quaint town center with a pretty stream walk. the castle is a good long climb so you have to be fit the problem is, when you get to it it's just a ruin and in my view not worth the effort or charge they make. All in all. For wonderful countryside its worth a visit anything else not my kind of place. Also be aware they are keen on parking if you are lucky enough to find a spot.

Lovely town, lots to see, but don't park on the single yellow lines even on a Sunday! There are tiny signs advising that there is no parking Sat, Sun, and Bank Hols 8am to 8pm and I was done at 9 am on a Sunday. They obviously couldn't afford enough yellow paint to paint double yellow lines which would have been much clearer for visitors.

no visit to the peak district is not a visit unless you go to castleton, full of charm and scenery its a cavers paradise you can go by boat in a cave how many other caves can you go to that does that (unless you go to Blackpool pleasure beach) but not the same, there is one particular cave that when you go on the tour they turn the lights out for a brief second and you have total darkness, the shops all sell blue John stone jewellery so fellas make a hasty retreat if your other half enters the shop enter only with the cash, been to Castleton for over 40 years and it stays the same shops change hands but the buildings do not, there are plenty of walks for both young and old, if about in the summer visit one of the wells dressings unique to the peak district and Derbyshire not sure ifCcastleton has one but Hope ,Bradwell and Tideswell nearby do, but most of the towns and villagers have one at some point.

Castleton is located in Hope Valley ..Visiting the village takes 1-2 hour walking slowly, It's pretty village, welcoming atmosphere, small shops, good pubs and eateries ..It"s also an ideal starting point to visit local caves, which are either natural cavities or galleries of graphite or a combination of both..... William Peveril erected here in the 12th century. a stone castle just after the Norman Conquest. Now in ruins, ,the castle still dominates the village ... . Going to Peak Cavern, about 45 minutes walking from Castelton center..Very nice place

We didn't do the whole walk but mainly around the pretty old town and out to the cave. There are lovely shops selling great products generally. The township is worth a walk around
