we have stayed at Sumners Ponds quite a few times now and always ask for a lakeside pitch as we like to wake up by the lake and feed the ducks in the morning. Even though we only live 15 minutes from the site once there we total relax and you could be any where. We love finishing work on a Saturday night and having a night away. The Cafe by the lake is 1st class the staff really friendly and the food is excellent we have had breakfast lunch and dinner several times and never a bad meal. The toilet facilities as really excellent. On our latest stay they had live music in the Cafe by the lake it was brilliant. I wish there was a way they could be more flexible on having to book for two nights during peak season as I have to work six days a week and so we can only go in the winter.
Great place for fishing, no matter what your standard. If you enjoy catching carp then i definitely recommend that match lake, if you know anyone you want to get into fishing this is a fantastic place to bring them.Cafe is great in summer, with nice but basic food available to eat in the outside seating area, or in a polystyrene container to take up to the lake with you.
Wonderful for a country stroll, good basic food at the cafe, lovely coffee! Great camping site. good facilities. Hard to believe it's just outside Horsham
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about Sumners Ponds and in particular our Café by the Lake.I’m very sorry your camping experience was not an enjoyable one.Our campsite is open all year round and the pitch used has been booked on many occasions and at the same time of year as your visit. This is the first time that we have had comment regards water levels on that pitch. A browse at the Met Office website advises that 2014/2015 was one of the wettest winters on record. In such circumstances, whatever drainage methods are used, if there is a particular period of relentless heavy rain, it will take some time to drain away. Fortunately this doesn’t happen every year and we are, of course unable to forecast rain ahead when pitches are booked. If you would like to discuss this further, kindly email your telephone contact details. Many thanks.Matthew Miller Business Manager (Back Office).office@sumnersponds.co.uk
Lovely little cafe by side of lake in picturesque setting. Great range of local fresh food and decent beer and wines.Perfect for a relaxing time where you are transported to a rural paradise.
On the recommendation of a caravanning friend, I brought my mother here plus two dogs. It was around 1pm when we arrived so we went straight to the café for lunch, expecting to have to eat outside because of the dogs but peeped inside only to see several dogs relaxing with their owners. What bliss! It was a very cold day and the café was so warm and cosy. We enjoyed a Ploughman's Lunch and excellent coffee, then went off exploring the lakes and many footpaths through the woods and fields. Lots to see, anglers and plenty of ducks and geese, also earthworks at Bettys Pond. After an hour or so of walking we returned to the café for another very welcome coffee. The actual caravan site looks excellent, with hook-ups and private bays divided with hedging, a play area, clean toilet/showers and a laundry room. Highly recommended for a day out or a longer stay.
Never lets us down whether fishing or dining. Top produce and service. We wish it was a little further from our home as we would happily stay here in our motpr home. Keep it up guys.
I've been to Sumners on a number of occasions as my mum stays here for annual visits. We usually go as a family for dinner at the cafe and absolutely love the beautiful setting. On a spring or summer evening there's nowhere better to sit and have a drink or dinner as the view over the lake is stunning. The food is very good and there's an undercover area if you prefer to sit there with heat lamps. They also do evening entertainment sometimes although we've never been there late enough for that. My young son comes with us and loves the setting of this family friendly establishment. Last time we went it was a bit chilly to sit outside so we chose to sit inside which was also very pleasant.Even if you don't visit the cafe and just camp or caravan, this is a lovely setting in a quaint village, which has a pub a few hundred yards away. There's a playground for kids and a shop on site. The site has relatively new wash and toilet blocks which are sturdy and clean. We are looking forward to our next visit here in May.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about Sumners Ponds and in particular our Café by the Lake.I’m very sorry that your coffees were not to your liking, but pleased you enjoyed the rest of our facilities. We have spent a small fortune on a new coffee making machine, facilities and staff training, so I’d really like to get a bit more detail from you to ascertain what went wrong and how we put it right.I should be grateful if you would kindly email your telephone contact details. Many thanks.Matthew Miller Business Manager (Back Office).office@sumnersponds.co.uk
great location near the lakes with some lovely walks. Friendly staff, excellent quality food and great value. Will definitely be back for more winter and summer food treats and country side walks
I came here with my children to "blow the cobwebs out" after Christmas for a local walk. Really lovely place, quiet, tucked away with some easy walking. The cafe looked lovely & welcoming and we'll come back another time to eat (we'd just had lunch)!.
The drinks were good but we felt a bit young. If you like the 'garden centre' scene with older people milling around plants then this is for you. I am not old enough yet. That said, the walk around the lakes is nice.
Excellent value for money. Staff were really friendly, especially those in the Polar Express and the elf train. Well organised and great fun for all ages...we had a 1 year old, a 2 year old, a 7 year old and a 61 year old who all loved it
I was told about this cafe (over the phone) by a friend, minutes before I arrived there. I can't comment on the camping facilities as that wasn't my reason for visiting. It is quite well hidden off a country lane, behind a cow shed on a farm. I was in the middle of a long walk and needed a public toilet. My friend recommended this place. When I found it, I was amazed at the size. Traditional old wooden building, it is a large rustic cafe with a well thought out menu, very reasonably priced delicious food served by charming waitresses in a dog friendly setting, complimentary dog biscuits available at the bar. Completed with trees growing through the building. An ideal spot to stop for lunch if in the area.
