easedale tarn

Walked to Easedale Tarn back in the day when I was all of 13 on a geography field trip. A lovely walk out the back of Grasmere village past the village green, sign posted. Via quiet road initially, then fields and then up, strenuous on the legs, no steep drops for those worried about heights like me. Includes waterfall, tarn and view of Grasmere looking back. Take a picnic, its a lovely calm spot. Take the route on the other side of waterfall to come back. I have walked this one almost every time I come to Grasmere. A lovely half day out. Do take the dogs they'll love it, just a few sheep to keep your eyes open for with them.

Not too difficult but challenging enough and worth it when you get to the tarn itself. If you have any walking difficulties then it may be too difficult

Easily accessed walk from the north side of Grasmere village. Clearly Sign posted from the road. Starts on a road then continues through fields with a good, but sometimes hard to walk on stone path. Ascent starts after about a mile. Stone path all the way up to about 300 meters. The view at the top is lovely, as is the tarn even on a very cold grey day in February. Good walk if you are a bit rusty like us, but like a good view at the end of it for your trouble.

This is a wall that has it all and is easily achieved.This walk has it all, the gorgeous sour milk gill, fantastic views over grasmere! Highly recommended

A fantastic walk with beautiful views from start to finish. If you are in Grasmere and are looking for things to do this should be at the top of your list.

Easy to follow path with a gentle climb then a steep section next to the waterfall, we came back via Lancrigg which makes it perfect circular walk. Quite busy in parts but fab with views you feel you've have had a good feel of the Lakes.

It was an off the cuff hike to see this hidden gem. It took us about one and a half hours to reach our destination from leaving our hotel and the path was still a little icy in parts close to the summit with a sprinkle of snow.

A great walk - steep in parts but the path is clearly layed out. Worth the walk up to the top, the views are fantastic.

We walked to Easedale tarn in Feb 14. There was still snow and ice around which made some of the path up slippery, we started the route up from Easedale Road. The route back was a lot safer and less damage on the knees as it does not have too many steep parts.

This is a great walk from Grassmere and if you are just going to Easedale Tarn you cannot go wrong. It gets slightly more confusing as you go higher, but its a must if you are visiting the Lakes.We did the circular walk that includes Codale Tarn and the views are worth the effort.

This walk was a wonderful surprise, as it was literally from our doorstep from The Lancrigg Vegetarian Country House Hotel. You can simply walk through the breathtaking Easdale valley along the path kindly constructed by the National Trust, or you can follow the path right up to the tarn. Unfortunately we were unable to reach the tarn itself on this occasion as it was very icy in places from recent snow fall, however the views from the top of the waterfall are spectacular.

This is a must walk ,well climb not to bad we took it slow to look at the wonderful views . Lots of people about ,we had good weather which was nice , good day out and when you get to the bottom walk in to grasmere village which is 5 mins way and get yourself a coffee and cake ...

Parking can be tricky in Grasmere but we managed to park at the school and there is a donation box where you leave £3 (at least). The start of the walk is opposite the bookshop on Easedale road (also where the Helm crag walk starts)- there is no public parking available here unless you are staying at one of the places on this road. The fist part is paved road until you come to a little bridge across the water where the lovely bit really starts. The path for this walk is pretty well laid out but it did help to have an idea where you were going- especially on the way down if you are doing the circuit walk- we got a little booklet with the walks around here for £2.50 in Grasmere. You go up a gently sloping hill most of the way alongside the river with perfect views of the waterfalls- that you can get pretty close to. At the top you get to the tarn which was peaceful with gorgeous views! There is a walk which continues further if you are interested but we did the circuit that day so we crossed the river- over rocks and headed down. The way down was not as nice as the way up- up was mostly a stone path and down was through grass that was wet and really muddy in places (you can always g back the way you came!). Make sure you wear proper warm footwear when doing this walk! It took us just under 3 hours to complete this one and that is with stops along the way for photos. We did take sandwiches with us but there was a steady drizzle when we got to the top so decided not to stop. Lovely walk which was not too challenging.

We walked passed the tarn and got a bit lost finding our way down. We did in the end but check your best route!

Good walk - will be busy at peak times though and path narrow in part - continue all the way up to stickle tarn for a more challenging walk/hike.
