Visited recently on a family trip out for some fresh air following New Year. £6 car parking per car is ok when their is a few in the car ( which we had) but no so if your the only one ( as per our convoy). Having been a regular visitor to Newstead Abbey since childhood it is always a pleasure to visit. This day in particular was lovely due to the frost whcih was spread across the ground and was climbing up the trees and greenery turning it white, and frozen lake. Enjoy going behind the water fall (which wasn't frozen this time) find the ruins in the wood on the bank of the lakes, explore the various types of gardens and woodland, it is a real treat for all ages and dogs are welcome. Didn't go in to the house this time but its worth a visit at least once ( additional cost applies). Peacocks and Pea Hens wander about freely which is nice as they do come quiet close and jump up and down the walls of the café court yard. Enjoyed a hot choc form the café to walk round with to keep chilly hands warm. Always stunning to visit whatever the weather as it looks so different every time with colour changes of plants and shrubs, sunsets and low lying mist. And on a plus side Free week day parking starts February 2015 till November for those able to visit during the week!

Have visited on several occasions and each time something new catches your attention. The gardens are beautiful even in winter set with the abbey and house as a backdrop. Perfect for a winter walk or a summer pinic.

Having been here as a child myself it was great to bring the family to see what a great place we have so close. The grounds and gardens are still a great place to walk around even at this time of year. Then inside the house it was nice to see they had even got Christmas tree up, some great areas to walk around and being able to show the younger ones just how people once lived is great. We all learned something new.The staff were also very helpful and the on site coffee was a welcome out stop for a coffee and sandwiches even if abit pricey.

We walked our dog around the grounds of Newstead Abbey and then had a delicious coffee and cake...the reward. The gardens are absolutely magnificent and so well cared for, I just could not stop smiling. Will be returning with a picnic so we can stay for the entire day by the lake.

If you're in the Nottingham/Mansfield area and looking for an attraction which combines lovely gardens and picturesque lakes to take chilled walks around so you can collect your thoughts, look no further than Newstead Abbey. Not far off M1 Junction 27, easy parking and relatively cheap admission. You're not missing that much if you decide to not pay for admission to abbey itself, but the grounds are very nice and tranquil, with plenty of open grass space near the car parks to play good old-fashioned family games like rounders.

We visited Newstead Abbey last Sunday. Parking is £6 which we thought was a little expensive. It could be seen fair to have a parking meter so people can pay depending on their length of stay. The grounds itself are beautiful. Clean, tidy, and very well kept. We didn't pay to go into the house, but might do on our next visit. The cafe was nice, and we were able to get a table even though it was very busy. There was a band playing outside which was lovely to listen to. This place really is fun for all ages, couples, families, friends. Enjoy the fresh air, and beautiful scenery.

We went to see the Christmas decorations and were not disappointed. One of the guides was absolutely right when she said that the place comes alive at Christmas. As you walked through the beautifully decorated rooms, you could hear a beautiful voice singing festive songs. We eventually came to the room with the 'voice' and stayed a while to join in the singing. His name is Johnny Victory. The craft stalls had something for everyone. Then we had homemade cake and coffee followed by a little walk in the lovely gardens. All this for only £5.

Visited Newstead today for a Christmas special. It was a lovely experience and really put us in the festive mood. Each room was full of information on Byron and bedecked with Christmas trees and decorations - lots of inspiration for your own decorations at home. There was also a singer - Johnny Victory, who sang lots of festive songs and carols - he kept everyone entertained. Then we were further entertained by a brass band in the cafe area whilst we drank our teas and coffees and ate mince pies. All in all a thoroughly well spent £5.00 and the parking was free.

We spent the weekend in Derbyshire and this was one of the few places open in November and we were not disappointed. What a lovely place.Steeped in history - information and memorabilia about Lord Byron and further owners. Most interesting and loads to see. Didn't manage to make the most of the gardens as it was pouring with rain but during a brief respite took a quick look round just outside. The white peacock was unique!Well worth a visit and good value at £5 entrance!
