My visit to the Open Air Museum was the highlight of my holiday. It was a rural idyll with different types of houses to reflect the different regions of the Netherlands. It was a great experience to see how the Dutch used to live and I would highly recommend it if you are in the area. There was enough to see to justify a full day visit to this attraction.
A great place to find out how people lived in the old days.If the weather plays along you can easily spend a day in this park.Beautiful old farms, windmills and houses.
Genuine (beautiful) old farms, houses, windmills, factories + their interiors. Some farmanimals. If you want, old crafts are explained to you by (museum)employees working in the different houses/farms. Nice little lake with a little boat and toys for children at the square. It has a playground and a beautiful garden. Also a nice park to have a rest / enjoy the scenery. The train is worthwhile to see the whole property.
It's a wonderful park to walk in and to visit old buildings such as farms, cheese factory etc. Typical Dutch, but interesting for every body and all ages.
I went to this museum 2 days ago (8th february) with my wife, we spent over there about almos 5 hours and we enjoyed a lot, just walking and seeing the old houses. There were beautiful horses and sheeps. There was a small park where you can enjoy a little time. There is a train that takes you over the park (just in summer).Beautiful mills, river and houses.I definitely would go back. I recommend you to go (in summer if it is possible). The ticket entrance was just 5€.
Having the good fortune to visit this museum on a beautiful day, I really enjoyed the exhibits. I visited with a tour group and in retrospect I should have packed a lunch as the provided lunch service took too much time away from seeing the lovely buildings.
Do not miss this!! If you want to learn about Dutch heritage, this is a great place to go. Enjoyable for both children and adults. You can spend most of a day here or dash through and just hit the items that interest you most in a few hours. Well worth the time. Be sure to bring your camera and good walking shoes. You're often walking through grass and fields which helps with the historic ambiance too. And of course be prepared for any kind of weather. If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it's bound to change. I once experienced, rain, bright sun, sleet, and snow all within a single hour!
So much to do and see, we spent two whole days here!Typical of Dutch hospitality, they provide information leaflets in a multitude of languages.
Don't go to the Netherlands without stopping at this museum! I could have spent two days here, and that is not an exaggeration. Being able to climb an actual windmill and look at the inner workings was something that I've always wanted to do. To see the simple, yet elegant and ingenious way they turned wind power into usable energy was incredible. The working wind powered sawmill was mindblowing! You can walk through original houses from all the different parts of the Netherlands and see how different building styles suited the different areas or was simply a result of the different personalities of the people that lived in a certain area. There is a little "town center" where you can buy food and gifts as well as ride about on an old style bicycle where you peddle on the steering wheel, not as easy as you might think!
Open-air activities with educational and touristic goal.A must go for the visitor that wishes to have a deeper knowledge about the Dutch lifestyle, architecture, history, traditions...and so much more.Prepare for a spending a full day there. Take shoes to have a long walk through, camera for beautiful photos, and clothing according with the weather -- you will be walking among a natural landscape, outdoors, most of time.EXPENSIVE for a family, but definitely A MUST GO...
