The permanent exhibition is very interestin. The special exhibitions was about the Geisha's in Japan, it runs till May I think.

We went for the special Geisha Exhibition to the National Museum of Ethnology. Very impressive building, nice entrance and very friendly staff. The Exhibition was really interesting and very well displayed. We loved the Cherry Blossom tunnel! Beautifull Kimono's.

Easy walk from Leiden train station. Spacious exhibits. We went specifically to see the Geisha exhibition. Lots of video which you can choose English or Dutch subtitles explaining the different aspects of Geisha life, clothing, education/training, working life etc. Kimonos were beautifully displayed and wonderful to see up close.

We went today for the special Geisha exhibition. Beautiful presented. The video's are vey informatie. We thought to spend an hour, in the end it was more than 3 Hours. THE café is very pleasant

Volkenkunde is a great museum with a wonderful collection. The displays are very nice and highlight the items perfectly, some even light up a bit more when you get closer for a better look. The museum has good balance in what to exhibit and in what amounts, doing the items justice on their own as well as part of a whole. The computers for additional information on the items are a nice touch and the museum offers plenty of interaction for children. The temporary Geisha exhibit is wonderful, with beautiful pictures, interesting stories and items, and the exhibition hall is decorated in theme very nicely.The recently returned "Buddha room" shows of the statues very well and the room itself is a place of beauty and peace.The location of the museum is top notch: close to both the train station and the center of the city.

The exhibition showing at the time was very interesting and informative. There is always something new to see and the staff are very helpful if you need any information.

Large and beautiful building housing a vast collection across two floors. The themed rooms hold comprehensive displays of historical artefacts from Africa, Indonesia, North America, Oceania, Japan etc. The current temporary 'Geisha' exhibition (until 6th April 2015) is colourful and interesting. The museum has excellent facilities including a lovely cafeteria and lounge and a well stocked souvenir shop.

The museum will definitely appeal to the entire family. It is colorful, noisy, attractive. The lovely building stores a large collection from the entire world and displays different cultures in an interesting way. It can easily take you several hours to walk through.Great museum shop!

This museum is both beautifully put together as a whole, and also facilitates excellent temporary exhibitions. It's also conveniently located quite close to the Centraal station if you are visiting Leiden just for a day. I would certainly check to see what the current exhibition is before visiting. Right now the exhibit is on Geisha, and it's both stunning and probing.

The main reason for our visit was the exhibition by Jimmy Nelson "Before They Pass Away". This exhibition was set up in a great fashion. A combination of different media, video, slides and pictures. We actually went twice in order to get our pictures taken by Jimmy and his staff.We did not spend enough time on the other exhibitions but we'll be back for more.

Interesting place with lots of connection to Netherlands colonial past - not always a thing to be proud of…Helpful staff and a big place that you could easily spend an afternoon in. Interesting displays regarding Japan and American Indians also when we went. Had a rush around and will go back there and spend the time the place deserves.

We were blown away by the atmospheric and evocative presentation throughout the museum. The Geisha exhibition in particular is simply stunning. There are some fine dramatic moments as you make your way through this exhibition and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Really appreciate that the subtitles for the video interviews were available in English.

I visited the museum during a ladies night for the exhibition Geisha. The museum has a beautiful collection from all over the world. The artifacts are well displayed, with lots of information. The Geisha exhibition is well worth visiting. Lot of information on the day-to-day life of the Geisha is displayed. Several informative videos are shown and the beautiful kimonos are worth the visit.

As an Indonesian who studying in Netherlands, I found this museum very interesting, especially because there is a special room exhibits stuff from Indonesia. They even hold some important artifacts that might be very precious for the origin countries. The information for each object was also provided clearly. A must visit museum for those who love and appreciate world cultural diversity.
