a nice view and maintained lighthouse and harbor equipment ! nice to see when walking arround in Rotterdam
What was once a desolate port area, is now a bustling center of activity. Started by the stylish Hotel New York (the old HQ of the Holland America Line) about 15 years ago, there are now a number of amazingly impressive buildings, and more to come. A new pedestrian/bike bridge brings you to The Cape, once the largest brothel area of Europe, and now renovated and trendy. The Erasmus bridge takes you to the center of town (walking distance).
Take the boat and go for a drink at de Kop van Zuid at the end of a nice summer day. View is excellent.
The Kop van Zuid is the location of the New York Hotel, which used to be the Holland America Lines shipping office. It is a lovely old building which sits at the end of the Kop van Zuid and is a water taxi stop. For 3.60 euros pp you can travel by water taxi from the inntel hotels at Leuvehaven to the Kop van Zuid and get another perspective of the city and a part of its inner city harbour.
Walk around Kop van Zuid and you will understand Rotterdam nowadays spirit. The buildings are wonderful, and the project for thhe future even better. At the end, the gem: the New York Hotel and Bar (inside and outside). In the area there also is a museum of fotography.
Wolking around the sky scrapers is great, feeling like little Manhatten.Have a nice lunch in Hotel New York and cross with your lover the bridge and "lock" your love!
We visited Hotel New York, took the metro form the hotel and walked around. We enjoyed the surroundings, the history and the ambiance of the hotel.
The so called 'Wilhelmina-pier' offers you top of the bill modern architecture. But is is also the place where thousands of emigrants (from all over Europa) left to the US. In the former office building of the Holland America Line you wil find a very nice café / restaurant now
A special place during your visit of Rotterdam. Mind you, it is still under development, which is going slower than intended. But Hotel New York is worth a visit (or a stay!), excellent place for lunch (you might wish to make a reservation!). You can wander around here, if you're lucky you'll see a cruiseship docking or leaving from the cruise-terminal, and it's indeed a great location for photo's.
Have coffee at the New York Hotel then wander around Kop van Zuid. Part of the newly renovated area, some building work still ongoing.
We visited this distrcit of the city at the wrong time I think. It was daytime, mid winter and there was a host of construction works going on. There is clearly potential in this area and I suspect on a summers evening, it is a nice place to walk round and pop into a waterfront bar or restaurant.
One of the best areas to visit or to live in. It has plenty of nice restaurants and cafes overlooking the water. there is a world cinema for special movies in different languages. The magnificent hotel New York. Also plenty of big modern buildings suitable for work and home. All overlooking the old haven and the Rotterdam sky line.
Formerly a harbour district with run-down warehouses, this is now the newly developed part of Rotterdam with luxury apartments, houses, bars and restaurants. Great architecture.
