A lovely evening spent watching day turn into night, with churches galore, mingling with locals and sampling the cafes and bars.

Very central to it all. Includes exclusive shopping as well as bars and restaurants that should not be missed. Get off at Baicha Chiado Metro or stop on the 28 tramway.

We were staying in Baixa and Chiado is within walking distance from our hotel. Here you can find lots of restaurants and boutiques and of course the famous Garrett Street. We have done some of our shopping here.

As you climb the hill in the commercial area, enjoy the views and atmosphere. Often street performers or bands will be about and plenty of shops or cafes to stop in and relax.

firstly note- it does not say chiado so hard to find. There is a very mediocre temporary exhibition for some unknown reason linked with a student studying in Wales linked with the holocaust- which I skipped as no interest. Get beyond that- up 2 floors and you find their permanent collection which is interesting and worth going to. This is also included with your Lisbon card (worth buying for free museum entry and free transport).

Our hotel was in Chiado. Very centrally located. Easy to get to Metro, buses, trams, shopping, dining, ...

Shops and cafes are great. The streets are full of people and it's a lively atmosphere. Shop at Sapateria do Carmo and Lavaria do Ulisses

this is the old town...you go back centuries ago when you visit this...the streets, churches, very good shops, theatre, you must go to the cafe "Brazileira"...

Not going to Baixa-Chiado would be equivalent to going to New York and never visiting Manhattan, seriously, it's a must! Baixa-Chiado is where you'll find street performers, street meat (food stands), fine dining and lots of shopping. It's also pretty close to Bairro Alto, THE place for nightlife. I highly recommend for anyone visiting Lisbon.

The Neighborhood of Baixa-Chiado definitely worth the visit as you can find out a lot of attractions and a lot of nice sites where to restore and have a great lunch/dinner...

Chiado is a must in the city of Lisbon. It has the most beautiful dynamic environment counting with street artists, shops, cafes... (Remember that the shops close at 7pm, though). Like the rest of downtown, you have to visit it to capture the real nature of Lisbon. There, you can also see a lot of historical buildings like churches. You can also find plenty of museums.Visit it! You won't regret.Bonus: when staying in Lisbon you can't not go to Cascais. Only a trip of train separates you from Cais do Sodré and Cascais. (Approximately 30 minutes). The village, right by the train stop is full of shops, cafes, little hidden beaches (such as Praia da Rainha-beach of the Queen in Portuguese), McDonald's, a mall, museums (Cidadela de Cascais, Condes de Castro Guimarães...). You have to visit Santa Marta Lighthouse and Museum too. I highly recommend you going!

Chiado is downtown Lisbon where you can take in some shopping and smaple the port in the deli shops. There are street performers and some independant fashion stores as well as all the usual names like Zara....which is definitley cheaper in Portugal then in the u.k.! If you walk through Chiado metro station to the exit at top of the escalaltors. it brings you out near Biarra Alta which has great bars that get going after 9pm, and many have live bands playing until the early morning. If you walk up the stairs by the side of the Metro you will see a hadful of designer shops like Boss and Massimo Dutti and a fab restaurant on Salamanca street called "Salamanca!" which is a great venue for a romantic meal with the most polite attentive staff you will enconter and delicious food in a swanky environment but not for a swanky price!

chiado is the shopping area both for locals and tourists, close to good restaurants, and with shops for every taste and cost. well worth some hours and than dinner at bairro alto

A beautiful place to enjoy the city life of Lisbon .. with a beautiful statue beside the upstairs of metro station of the man who named the place with his name .. and a huge statue in the center of square which people take photos and enjoy with Flocks of pigeons

If you like shopping, Chiado is the place for you! With a lot of big international shops, but also little local boutiques, any shopping lover will find what they are looking for! Also, a lot shops have sales on their products most of the time, so definitely check it out :)
