The Cathedral is not to be missed. The restaurants and cafés are true gems sure to delight your palate. The ambiance, views will invite to to return again and again. With all that, you need to be patient with the service..
This plaza is very picturesque. When we were visiting in October, it was not particularly crowded or touristy. It was a very pleasant place to sit in an outdoor cafe with a drink and tapas and watch the world go by. Great view of nearby cathedral. Nice old clock tower which chimes the hour as does the cathedral. Plenty of shops and venders around for my wife to explore while I had another drink.
Visited October 2009 and March 2013, and will be visiting March 2015. This plaza is very nice. It can be a little touristy at times but it's fun. They have street performers, places to eat (which can be on the pricey side). If you have bought a Madrid pass the office to get the card/info is here. There are some nice shops around too. It's a nice place to grab a bite and relax on a sunny day. This is within walking distance of many places around downtown and the Gran Via
With its numerous restaurants maybe you will be lucky and catch the pianist who plays there late Sunday evenings. Also nice view of the cathedral !
Great restaurants and shops around the Plaza. One day we visited there was a market with all sorts of vendors selling scarves, fruits, vegetables, etc.
it is really nice to sit in piazza mayor on a sunny day, drink your coffee and enjoy the views of the cathedral…little joys of life..
Nice main square with beautiful architecture, restaurants, and lovely atmosphere with many places to go from
The Plaza Mayor has a beautiful design. It is quite big and when we went there was a market. On one side is the Town Hall, which was designed by Pedro de Bizuela in 1609. Another side of the Plaza Mayor has the Teatro Juan Bravo, built in 1918. This is the theater where the city has cultural events.
I'm not sure why some reviewers are praising this plaza for its size, because it certainly felt smaller and more compact than many others in Spain, much less Europe. It is still a charming plaza, with several old dining establishments still giving visitors a gastronomic treat. My wife and I had our lunch at La Concepcion, and it was quite good! This plaza is, of course, the first point where you stand and gawk at the beautiful Cathedral :)
Every old town seems to have their Plaza Mayor, and this one is no exception. It is the social center of old Segovia and there are many nice restaurants and gathering places around the plaza, including the beautiful old Cathedral of Segovia. Visit at night to feel the vibe of the city.
Segovia is a charming city and the Plaza Mayor a wonderful spot for relaxing and watching the tourists and locals go about their lives. The Cathedral at night is lovely and peaceful. All the excitement and chaos of Madrid is an hour away by car or 30 minutes by train making Segovia a perfect base for seeing this area of Spain. We will definitely return.
Magical setting both daytime and nighttime, when the cathedral is illuminated against the night sky. You can sit in one of the many outdoor cafes and restaurants and soak up the atmosphere and watch the world go by,
Since this is the centre of town from here you can easily get to all the sights. We came during market day so the place was full of stalls selling apparel and fresh food. It's a pleasent spot with a clean cut design but too be honest not much different looking to other Plaza Mayors in spain.
Across from the Catedral and a five minute walk from the Alcazar, surrounded by the best restaurants in the city and not overrun by tourists as the lower plaza. A must see.
Very clean and beautiful. Steeped in history in all directions. Lots of affordable restaurants so you can sit within the history of this town and enjoy a fantastic meal.
