Situated on the top of the hill and with a park overlooking the Duero this is a beautiful Cathedral to visit. Although there are many churches in Zamora the Cathedral is worth a visit.
This cathedral is absolutely gorgeous. It's very well preserved and has astonishingly beautiful tapestries! It's magnificent in every possible way but without being "crushing".
Loved all about it,as they say in Spain "pequeño pero matón" = Little but FAB!!! When I came out it had just finished raining and the Rainbow was protecting the city.
The museum houses some impressive tapestries and with few more in the church too. Lovely coloured stone used in this cathedral.
Make sure to allow sufficient time to spend in the little museum attached to the cathedral. It is well worth, filled with religious art that is quite good and well displayed. Really more of an attraction than the cathedral itself.
4 euros entrance for cathedral without extra museumIncluded hand set with good commentary. Frsutratlingly as usual loads about the religious bits but the actual architecture and wooden carved chairs /doors etc don't get a mention hardly. Don't miss the tapestry rooms on the upper floor
Wonderful building with its giant "dome." But best of all are the extraordinary tapestries on the upper floor of the museum. These medieval Flemish treasures show scenes from the Trojan War, scenes in the life of the founder of the Tarquin dynasty in early Rome plus scenes from the Jesus miracle of the olive garden. I saw them first some 20 years or more ago when they appeared much darker. Now after an enormous restoration, they are sensational in colour, vibrancy and in their communication of what contemporary people looked and dressed like. Just watch, too, the ornate dressing of the war horses. Not to be missed in a million years.
The cathedral is rather nice, with a fantastic dome (looks great from the outside and reminds me of various Byzantine church domes). There are some excellent choir stalls, with good carvings (some are described as 'earthy', which I think is a polite way of saying they depict a more realistic view of life and love....There's the usual assortment of religious arts and over the top altarpieces, but the standout of this cathedral is the attached museum that has several tapestries in it. They are Flemish and show scenes from the Trojan War, the life of Hannibal and the life of Traquin, a king of Rome. They are absolutely brilliant and worth the entrance fee all by themselves. You could easily spend an age looking at every detail and still miss something. One thing to bear in mind is that you need to hang on to the audio guide when you leave the cathedral and go into the museum. It isn't obvious, but you need it to learn all about the tapestries - as I said, there's a lot of detail and the audio guide is invaluable for this part of the visit. So, with the amazing dome and the tapestries, this really is worth visiting.
This old cathedral is really beautifully restored and is well worth the 2 Euros entrance charge (for pensioners.)
Lovely well maintained cathedral, worth to have a look inside. Nicely situated oposite the Castel in the SE corner of Zamora overlooking the river Duero.
the Cathedral itself is fairly standard, but the so called "black tapestries" upstairs are outstanding and easy to miss. Having seen tapestries in Paris and Belgium these are likely the best you will see anywhere.
This isn't one of the great cathedrals in Spain, but buried in a room a couple flights up in one tower is a marvelous collection of tapestries. Audioguide was included in admission and it made the tour of the cathedral more interesting.
This a very interesting cathedral, with many rich chapels and art pieces. During summer inside the cathedral is fresh and a good place to have a rest...
impressivevisit impressive cathedral, nice a meditative place with nearly no tourists- just ourselves
No es grande. Tampoco de las mejores de Castilla, pero tiene el atractivo de los alrededores (castillo) y una bonita torre campanario, que parece la Torre del Homenaje del castillo. Tuvimos suerte y había un coro cantando de primer orden.
