Chinchon an enchanting place from many different perspectives. The site has been inhabited back to prehistoric times with celtiberico people when the plains were first irrigated. The Romans have been present there during their control of the Iberian peninsula. Then the Visigoths, the Arabs and finally the Spanish, who have remained in control. The Plaza, surrounded by balconies and porches of restaurants,is so large it is used as a bull fight ring several times a year and viewing events which take place. The buildings are from the 14th and 15th centuries. The Church of the Assumption stands above above the plaza on one side and the Castle stands on the other hill directly across from the Church. Though the Castle has not been in operation for a long time. It was last used as a winery. Next to the Church is the impressive Theatre Lope De Vega with the bust of the Contessa de Chinchon located in the plaza in front. Just outside of the village is a beautiful monastery. The area is renowned for the Anis wine produced. Restaurants such as the Cueva de los Morcialagos (Cave of Bats) are interesting and provide great places to enjoy. We ate on terrace of Los Huerta directly behind the Parador. The Parador (4 star hotel) is a converted monastery and beautiful. In short a wonderful place to spend a weekend just a short hour drive outside Madrid.

A delightful place at Xmas , on Sunday there's an antique market with lots of old treasures to buy.we stayed in the most beautiful penthouse apartment that can be found on airdrop ,the apartment looked over the plaza and was so centrally located for all attractions.

This town is tiny but the Plaza Mayor was a revelation to me.So beautiful. The Plaza Mayor was originally the Bull Ring but is now a delightful circular plaza ringed by cafes and restaurants many of which have a first floor Balconado where you can eat and look over the Plaza.Come at sunset when the houses around the Plaza turn pinker in the sunset.

Nice welcoming place with great views from the plaza and indeed great views looking down on the plaza from the clock tower

Beautifully preserved square that is also the bullring. Apart from the cars that park there during the week it is easy to imagine being in the 16th century.

it is very typical and if the bullfight ring is installed you can imagine how nice is to see it from the windows of the litlle buildings around the Plaza, it has a very nice restaurant, that used to be a winery that if you can visit it, you will have a very good spanish food and nice atmosphere.

This Plaza continues to host annual bull fighting events in a well maintained arena. It is in the center of town and surrounded by restaurants and accommodations all of which overlook the fighting area.

Very nice with restaurants, bars, shops & bakery around the plaza. There was a market on Saturday we were there but we missed it. I don't know if it is every Saturday. Try and book a table on one of the balcony. Tourist information office was on the left side of the plaza & we initially missed it.

We were in Chinchon on August 15th, which is an official town celebation day. We started the visit at the Plaza Mayor, and following a recommendation, went straight to the Tourist Information Office. The lady working there was very nice and extremely helpful planning our day in Chinchon. She told us that after mass, in the theatre next to the church, that the town orchestra played a free show, which was charming (don't expect perfect music, though). The encierro with the bulls was absolutely packed with people -- not so great to try to watch with kids. if you want a nice afternoon coffee, consider going to the cafeteria in the Parador. She also told us that if you want to avoid crowds, the best time to be in Chinchon is in summer, that spring and fall are both high season.

The many restaurants in the plaza provide a wonderful place to settle to eat and look around you with everyone else.

A beautiful little town - with a quaint Plaza - round like the bullring that is hosts each year. Lots of artisan shops for bread, deserts, garlic and straw making baskets.
