It only took a few minutes to see the theatre, however, you can get a tour if you like. It was nice to see a grand theatre of old. So much more character than theatres today.
This theatre, restored around 2001, is a little jewel. It's quite beautiful. We were attending a Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation meeting and had the treat of hearing the organist play the theatre's organ. It rises from the floor just like at the Fox!
I had the opportunity to see a show here while on a little vacation. I always try to go to local theater productions and experience some of the beautiful theaters that need our support. check this one out!
I've been to the Rylander several times for different events, it's a beautiful attraction in itself. They've hosted Beauty Pageants, Dance Recitals, and Annie Plays (for many years) that I've attended. The employees were friendly, the restroom (women's, don't know about the men's) were very clean, and the coffee shop is an added attraction.
There were no official tours but an actor happened to be there and showed us around. He even took our picture and we really had a good time.
Organ music before the play was outstanding. Play was good for a local community troupe. Price was good. The renovation of the theater is outstanding.
Thanks so much for your kind words about our beautiful theatre! As a matter of fact, there have been 3 weddings at the Rylander, my own being the most recent in 2010. I booked the theatre as a wedding venue before ever taking the job as Managing Director. It was suggested to me and I fell in love with it the first time I stepped inside (and there is excellent seating for plenty of family and friends). We hope you'll join us again soon for a show!
We are so glad you decided to stop in and visit the Rylander on your trip to Americus. We certainly hope you'll come back the next time you're in town!
The box office manager let us go in and look around and take pictures of this beautiful decorated theater. It felt like a minature of the famous Fox Theater in Atlanta.
The artwork in the lobby is the work of local artist Jeff Williams. His information can be found on the Rylander Theatre website. We are so fortunate to display his beautiful paintings as they compliment the Art Deco decor of the theatre so well. We are so glad you enjoyed both the concert and our beautiful theatre!
Some years back Americus made a commitment to preserve its downtown. Included in the revitalization was an extensive restoration of the Rylander Theater. Whether you come for a performance of blue grass, combined choirs of Albany, Macon and Americus, or a Sumter Players performance, the experience is a double treat because of the venue. Make it a special evening: have a drink at Floyds at the Windsor Hotel before the performance, amble two blocks to the theater, and sink into a luxurious seat and enjoy the entertainment.
We are so glad you enjoyed your tour of our beautiful and historic theatre. We hope you'll be our guests again for one of our many upcoming live performances. Thank you for thinking of us while you were in Americus!
Thank you for stopping by our beautiful and historic theatre! We encourage you to come back next time you are in Americus as we have an active Presenters Series and Community Theatre season. We hope you will enjoy the beauty of the theatre and the quality live entertainment on stage.
It was close to the hotel. We walked in and the person at the desk told us we could go right in. We walked around and were able to go onto the stage...got some good pictures.
Thank you for stopping by when you were in Americus. Our 2012--2013 Friends of the Rylander Presenter Series and our Sumter Players Community Theatre season are up and running. We look forward to you joining us again soon to see one of our fantastic live performances.
