This museum is in need of lots of tender loving care. It's worn and tired looking. My husband and I only stayed for a brief visit. The village of Andersonville itself is in need of lots of tender loving care.

While small, the Museum has a great collection of Union & Confederate uniforms, relics, arms, medical equipment, clothes, etc. Of particular interest is the "Drummer Boy" display, as my gr-grandfather enlisted as such at age 13. The Museum is a convenient addition to visiting Andersonville National Memorial, just down the road. The little village itself is worth some exploring time. Don't rush either place if CW is of interest.

This is almost like viewing someone's private collection. Everything is the real deal here, and in remarkably good shape. A great place to visit for any civil war buff.

Small, but packed with a lot of history. Great place to visit, worth the $5 admission. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. My cousin and I stopped by after visiting the cemetery. They've definitely upgraded since the last time I was here. Overall, a nice little museum.

We stopped here after touring the Prison and Cemetery. It is a one room museum but the items, multiple uniforms, diorama of the Prison, not to mention Mary Surrat's bonnet, fill the space. Every book, button, and sword had a wonderful detailed explanation. The diorama in the middle of the room really brought the grounds to life. We didn't get to see Mary Surrat's bonnet as it was away for conservation, but just knowing that it was there was amazing enough for me. To see General Eckerts watch stopped at the hour of Lincoln's death was a treat. There were more than a dozen full uniforms, ranging from drummer boy, of course, to a cavalryman, as well as women's dress from the day. There is something for every interest tucked away here and most importantly you can feel the love for not only the time but the artifacts. Did I mention the schoolbook and handwritten diaries? Just amazing!

The Drummer Boy Civil War Museum thanks you for your wonderful review. We request a donation instead of an admission fee due to if it is a donation, 100% goes directly back into preserving the collection. If there is a admission fee then only 75 to 78% would go towards the preservation of the collection as the state and federal government would get a part of it.We hope you will visit us again and thank you again for your wonderful review.

This is a small but quite fascinating exhibit, curated with love (and much knowledge) by a local man. Though not a big museum, it is certainly worth a visit.

We want to thank you for your review. We are sorry that the elderly gentleman that is a volunteer on the weekends didn't inform you that you could also put your donation in the donation box. Many history museums and preservation organizations have started putting a monetary amount on donation requests. We decided to do that as 100% of those donations go directly back into the preservation of this wonderful historic collection that includes original uniforms, diaries, weaponry and Lincoln conspirator, Mary Surrat's bonnet. Our little town is 161 years old this year, with just a population of 274. We hope you will come visit us - step back in time and discover history. We have so much more to offer you.

If you are going to Andersonville, this museum is definitely worth a side trip. We've been to countless museums all over the US, and this Civil War-related one is among our family's favorites! The artifacts are unique, bringing the war down to a personal level, and the staff are friendly and well-informed. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but if you go, don't miss the bonnett or the white bullet!

On a trip to Andersonville Prison NP-great historical place, by the way-we went into the small, quaint town of Andersonville and found this museum. It is small but the items in it were displayed nicely. The place was very clean and well kept. It has a very good diurama of the prison that my DH took multiple pictures of. The clerk was extremely informative of the museum and surrounding histories. My DH, who is a history buff unparalleled, could not find anything amiss in that history. The museum has out of the ordinary items I have not seen in others. I found a pair of sunglasses used by an officer in 1863! By the way, if you are hungry about that time, there is a small cafe just nearby that serves excellent food at a very good price. Patsy's. Very good!!
