One of my best things about coming to school at Ft. Gordon is the golf at this beautiful course. I have been playing it for the last 22 years, and absolutely love it. Living in Germany and having traveled a lot throughout my Military career I can tell you this ranks as one of the best I have ever played. Right up there with some of the best in Hawaii. But hands down I will tell you this is the best Army course in the Military. The staff is what makes this a great experience, very friendly and always willing to help. From June, Dan, Bill or Laura just ask and they will make sure you have a enjoyable golf experience. But do not forget to eat at Bogeys grill. Excellent food make sure you try the Cod or Catfish sandwich. :)
Amazing golf course considering it's a military course. Lots of hills and water. I was very impressed with the carts having accurate GPS and able to e-mail scores. Very memorable course in August. I wish I was at the National, but this was really fun.
I work on base so we have lunch there from time to time. They have daily lunch specials that are reasonably priced and a pretty good variety of sandwiches and grill items to choose from. The service is very good and you get your food fairly quickly. Great place to grab lunch after a round of golf on one of the best courses in Augusta.
Beautiful course. Very well maintained and good prices
Also one of the best public courses in the Augusta area. I've been lucky to have been stationed at Ft. Gordon twice so far in my career, and the metamorphasis that this course has undergone is nothing short of remarkable. What was once a nice, municipal style course with 27 holes has been made into a championship style course which hosts numerous regional tour events as well as a Hooters Tour event. All three sides are longer than many courses, (at close to 7200 yds from the black tees), with wide fairways but small landing areas, making the longer par 4's and some of the par 5's very difficult to access for all but the longer or more accurate players. The large undulating bent bermuda greens are very well kept and range from a 7 to as fast as a 13 on the stimp meter in the drier times of the year. All three 9-hole sides, (Pine, Island, Lake), have their own unique challenges and signature holes as well.If there is a downside to the course, it is that some of the drainage areas do not drain very well and the course can become saturated, with the bunkers holding water. However, the sand run off from the sides of the bunkers is usually fixed within a day after rain. Also, with this being a military course, there are quite a few soldiers who come out to try to golf. Many may not be fully aware of small things such as fixing ball marks on the greens or letting people play through. But such is to be expected from those who do not play regularly. Gordon Lakes has a very nice natural surface driving range with a practice bunker, large putting green, and a chipping green. Gordon Lakes is the only public course in the Augusta area to feature GPS systems in the carts. There is a grill located in the club house, along with a pro-shop which features the standard equipment found in many other clubhouses. The rates for the driving range and course are on the lower side of the higher end public courses in the Augusta, GA area; weekday rates (with cart) ranging from $38-50 for 18 holes of play. While it is on a military installation, the general public can access Gordon Lakes with a valid drivers license, and current registration and insurance for your vehicle. (all of this will be checked at the gate by the guards on duty) All in all, this is an incredible value and if you are a golfer visiting one of the mecca's of golf in Augusta, GA, and looking for a nice place to play for a reasonable price, you need not look any farther.
Played last month at GLGC, all three nines were in great shape, with wonderful views of the Lakes and Pines, and great course conditions. I cannot believe an Army course has GPS on its carts..
