nice peaceful place. Looks like a great place to take children. Has a lot of kid friendly things. I went off season and it was very peaceful.
Myself and 3 friends decided to have a golf getaway. One of the group suggested Little Ocmulgee State Park. He said the golf course was great and that we could rent a cabin that would comfortably sleep 4. We booked a cabin and decided to meet there at noon on a Friday. When we got there the cabin wasn't ready so we went straight to the course. The winter rate is outstanding...for $20.00 you get 18 holes with a golf cart. The course is beautiful and challenging. The greens are well maintained and will hold an approach shot. They also putt true. After our round we checked in and the cabin was perfect for our needs. Two bedrooms with2 queen sized beds in each room. Dining room table would comfortably seat 8 people. The kitchen had all the appliances and plates, glasses and silverware. The den had an entertainment center, couch and chairs. There was a deck on the back facing the lake and a grilling area that had chairs and a fire pit that we utilized. The price was $176.00 per night which I think was a bargain. We didn't go to the restaurant that is on site because we wanted to do some grilling. It was a great weekend!
I stayed at Little Ocmulgee for a business meeting. Starting off with the good; the grounds are beautiful, the trails are nice, the golf course is well maintained and the food at the restaurant is not bad. The rooms, however, have not been updated in a long time and could use some new beds, carpet, toilets, etc. The walls were pretty thin (a party raged outside my door late into the night). I do not recommend staying here, but the park is worth of visit if you're in the area.
We went for an overnight camping trip. The campsites were wide and some had full hookups. There was a playground near the lake. We stayed during the spanish moss festival. The festival was not very well attended, with a small crafts fair, a hand full of amusement attractions, some food stands, and some live music (mostly karaoke). The lake was drained so no watersports were available aside from some fishing on the pier. Our kids enjoyed the campfire and going on a brief hike. We never went to the lodge or golf course so ymmv.Overall it is an okay place to spend the night camping but not much else for families to do.
This could be such a beautiful state park! Lake is drained, playground between the loops in campground is gone. Rates are sky high. Spanish moss is everywhere which is very nice to see. Sites are very wide and in October about 10% occupied. Trails are made of sand and in some areas it is very deep specially going up the hills, so be careful riding bicycles. We will consider returning in summer months for splash pad and hopefully the lake will be full again to deserve the $35/night rate.
We were there at Little Ocmulgee State Park as a vendor at the Fall Festival in September. The grounds at the park are beautiful and great for family visiting or camping. The lodge was also on beautiful grounds (golf course). I did not have time this trip to play golf but certainly enjoyed the beauty and quaintness of the course that I could see. Prices posted seemed modest at $28-$30 each person for 18 holds and a cart. The restaurant was great and architecture inside the restaurant in white pine with huge logs done as a log cabin (fireplace was a thing of beauty). The seafood buffet on Friday night seemed a bit pricey @ $19.95 each person. The rooms at the lodge were extremely average and in need of modernization with the carpets being worn and looking like it was put together in the '60's...
My family and I visited Little Ocmulgee State Park for a friend’s weekend where the boys played golf and the girls played at the pool.We arrived on a Friday night and the restaurant had a seafood special. It was quite good. Our check in was quick and our room in the lodge while not fancy was fine. The bathroom was a bit small but it was very clean and accommodating. Breakfast was included and was a buffet which was quite good. The golf is great and the course is fine for duffers like us. The girls enjoyed the pool.We did go into McRae to eat on Saturday night so I cannot rate the dining room for that evening.Golf on Sunday was also good and the girls again enjoyed the pool.Overall a very good golf weekend at a very reasonable price. The only drawback is there is not much shopping for the girls so if they don’t like the pool they might be in trouble.
LOSP isn't far from home and we will be back! Splash pad is fun and clean. The playground is top notch and the campground gives each site tons and tons of space! Very peaceful and the activities offered for out child through the days we were there made her day. The staff was very nice and helpful.
At least they were consistent. Every staff member we had contact with was rude or dismissive. We booked a few months in advance to guarantee a king bed and to be close to other family members. Upon check in we were told no king beds were available and they poo-pooed my claim that I booked it online, specifically a king as my husband has back problems and needs the space. All righty then. On to the lake. We booked a cabin on the lake along with other members of our party that were assembling for a family reunion. Some had packed in kayaks to use. Surprise! The lake was drained and off limits. They had everyone's email address and contact info, but I guess they thought it okay to ambush people with that news. It was taped to the counter on a piece of paper. Full price for a lakeside cabin with no lake. The cabin was tired and stale and musty. 1970 called, they want their bedspreads back. The food in the restaurant was as bad as the staff. My group isn't picky, and $19 for the inedible buffet had us steamed. Those that didn't partake in the school lunch room food and ordered from the menu had terrible wait times and mixed up orders. The place wasn't busy and I see why. We checked out a day early, handing our key off to yet another rude staff member and I will never go back. Someone didn't get the memo on Southern Hospitality or how to cook.
It was our first time and last.We stay two week the bathrooms was clean one time it was 4th of July week end.We didn't see a host the whole time we were there there was a fuss the law was call still didn't see a host. They didnt e mail us and let us know the pond was dry.The price was a little high you have to paid for every thing your children did there was one pool and when the lodge was full and camp ground was full so was the pool.
We stayed here the last week in October in the campground. Some sites were level, others not so much. A few loud campers but overall pretty quiet. The dump station location is a little awkward. We were disappointed the lodge wasn't having the seafood buffet with no prior notice. There were having a private banquet, don't know if that played into the decision. The Sunday buffet looked good, and breakfast was good. Great cable selection. They had a haunted trail that looked fun, and showed movies on a big screen on Friday night. The hiking trail was nice. You could buy wood and starter logs at the trading post. Not much in the surround towns, but a small grocery store close by.
I have been visiting this park twice a year for the last 7 years. The lake is full again and there are fish to be caught. The greens have been resodded recently. It is a beautiful course for the price. It is not crowded. I was there this past weekend and did not see but one other foursome on the course. The food at the restaurant is excellent and at a reasonable price. The lodge rooms are clean and comfortable. The cabins are outdated in regards to furnishings and this time of year the water runs rusty for a while when you turn the spigots on in the cabins. I haven't seen this problem when visiting in the summer months.
They've just redone the golf course greens and they are awesome! The entire course has a great "new" feel. This course is one of several state park courses that are true jewels and shouldn't be missed. Generally not crowded but weekends can be busy. The prices for the golf packages are very good.
A few friends and I visit the park twice every year and have been doing so for the last 10 years. It is our first and last stop on our week long spring and fall motorcycle trips from central Florida to the mountains on north Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Occasionally we tent camp and other times stay in the hotel. We always enjoy eating at the restaurant. The entire park staff has always been pleasant and friendly. The rooms are nice, always clean and ready for a good nights sleep. We enjoy the swimming pool when it's open. There is ample parking and the park itself is well kept and always enjoyable. None of us golf, so we can't speak to that, except to say that the golfers we talk to there always seem to be friendly and in a good mood ;) Personally, I always enjoy my stay, especially when real southern fried chicken (my favorite) is on the menu!
We took a day trip to this state park to try out our boat for the first time. It's a nice sized lake and was plenty deep enough for the boat. There are no stumps or anything to hit in the water except for aquatic plant life in some areas. The cabins are close to the lake and swimming area making them very convenient if you have children and want to take them swimming. Cabin 10 is closest to the swimming area whereas cabin 1 is closest to the play ground. The park has a great golf course, lodge, restaurant, and trails. I am told the golf course is one of the best in Georgia. I've never tried the restaurant. We went Labor day and there were only two boats on the water at any given time (us and someone else). The clerk at the visitor's center informed us the park is being privatized so hopefully it can continue to be improved.
