The trip to this area is very difficult, but it is one of the most breath taking of any I have seen. Very good information near the dam and much better driving.to the north.

We left Apache Junction, AZ on highway 88 going north along the Salt River going to Roosevelt Dam. It is a great drive all of the way, but when you get about 22 miles from the dam the road becomes gravel and one lane the rest of the way to the dam. The views are great from the high points and the rock walls of the canyon that you just snaked down on the one lane road are also beautiful from the low points looking up. Do not do this trip when you are pressed for time because it took us about 2 1/2 hours to go from Apache Junction to the Dam and the Dam itself is a wonder to see and read about at the little viewing place and rest area just before you reach highway 188. It is a trip of just over 40 miles. If you can do it in Google's time of 1hr and 48 min you were likely speeding and not seeing a thing. Try it and enjoy - don't forget your camera.

We've been camping and boating at Roosevelt for 40 years but just started using the marina a few years ago. We like the convenience of the boat ramp but the surface needs to be renewed. Why can't there be rental slips for people using this ramp? We have to pu the boat on the trailer each time we return to our RV. The marina seems to be falling on hard times as there are fewer boats in the permanent slips. They did add new guest slips for temporary day parking that were very much needed. The overnight slip rental is very high - $35 per night. The marina store used to be better stocked before it got a face lift. The marina bartender we liked apparently quit and the new bartender treats us rudely so we avoid the bar. We love Roosevelt Lake and wish it would thrive but since the lake and surrounding property are under the control of the federal government we don't hold much hope.

just sightseeing on a trip to payson and stopped by the visitors center at Lake Roosevelt; the lake is gorgeous and well kept, the visitors center had loads of information and kept the kids entertained for a couple hours...learned about animals, plants and bugs native to the area and had a small gift shop for those last minute magnets, t-shirts or books. Damn nearby also very interesting

that is, IF.... you come via Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat.... this is the old road used by the mules and workers to get to and from the dam while it was under construction. It is dirt and mostly 1 lane from the dam down to Apache Lake OR from Apache Lake to the dam..... many times you have to back up and let someone pass.... it can be done in a regular drive car and there are some who drive their mobile homes and or haul their boats this route....not recommended, but they do it... the lake is pretty and there are two ways back to Phoenix, either down through Globe, which has it's own rich history or the other way...all paved, one 4 lane a great deal of the way... it is a recreational lake and it is great for boating.... inquire at the marina for the better camping spots...

We have been going to Roosevelt lake for years. We love that it is large with lots of space so there can be a lot of boats on the lake and you still have a place of your own to fish or ski. The Marina is nice, the people helpful and the bathrooms there well kept. Roosevelt lake is a great place for boating, but they failed in creating good camping space. There are no spaces near the water, even when the lake is at it's highest point (which is rare) camping spaces are still a ways from the water. There is also very little shade, so if you DO camp here, bring some shade or camp during the milder weather. The Good- Nice Bathrooms, Good Space, The Bad- No Shade, not near the water.

The area is very pretty and the marina was very helpful easy in and out. I would recooment the area to all boaters

Drove from Scottsdale just to go to the lake with three other couples. Rented the 22' pontoon. We were really disappointed that we could see only a small portion of the 100 plus miles of shoreline. The motor was > 100hp, but produced no speed. The pontoons were loaded with water. Check the equipment prior to rental! The ride from Scottsdale was beautiful. The lake has some nice structure for fishing, and several sandy islands to get out of the boat or swim.
