grayslake heritage center & museum

We went here over the holidays to see Santa and the xmas tree displays. Everyone was so friendly. The place was not crowded. Exhibits organized and interesting.

Grayslake is a quintessential little town that has blossomed and grown with urban spread. It still has a sweet little main st. with shops and restaurants and the community holds lots of events seasonally. But history here is rich and interesting and you will see the some of the names of the streets, schools, church founders and businesses on the walls and displays in this museum. We went on a hot summer day after a visit to the Tastee-Freeze across the street. The museum is housed in the old Grayslake fire house. It is fun to walk through and child friendly as things are displayed in such a way that is protected. This is not a children's museum though. I would say that it would be appropriate for ages 10 and up. Still, I think that those who would enjoy it most would be long-time residents who want to spend a scant hour reminiscing or newbies who want to know more about their new hometown.
