Don't miss the wonderful botanical park. A natural setting with lake, walking trails, nature center and waterfall. Near great resturants less than a mile away in Palos Heights.
LK is great for taking a hike around the lake and getting away from the busyness of life. In the summer a group of us go there and do T'ai Chi. The site is used for local events and weddings. Our garden club meets there once a month in one of the two free standing buildings. You can really see the changing of the seasons at LK. The staff and volunteers at LK are awesome!
This is the gem of the whole area. I love walking here daily. No matter what the season there is great beauty to be found here. It feels like you are far away from all noise and busyness when you step on the trail and start your journey around the lake. There are lovely little gardens with a waterfall too. Just perfect!
A lovely spot to just visit, hike, or check out the Eviormental Center. They have a clubhouse that handles around 100 people, nice for a wedding, anniversary or birthday party. You have to have it catered and bring in your own dishes, decorations, etc., but it is worth it. There is a garden in front of the clubhouse that is a perfect setting for a wedding with a waterfall nearby that is a very nice setting for photos. Many people walk the lake for exercise.
Great place to get some exercise and peace of mind. My wife and I took our wedding photos here and I had a surprise 40th birthday party in the clubhouse.
Well appointed, safe, clean, wide manicured trails, large pond/ small lake with ducks, swans and geese to look at while you walk around. What is not to like?
Lake Katherine is a really nice nature center with waterfalls, several garden areas and a path around the lake that is easy to walk. Canoes can be rented to take out on the lake. It's great for joggers. Lots of benches to take a break around the lake. Old farm equipment, vegetable gardens, flower gardens and pathways make this an enjoyable place to spend the afternoon.
Located on the banks for the Cal Sag Canal, this nature center feels like you are miles away from anywhere. It's beautifully maintained and good for an hour or so. You can hike around the mile trail and enjoy the lake and wildlife. Be forewarned, it's always crowded. Be forewarned that on beautiful days the lot will be full, but you can also park in nearby lots on the weekends. Lots of people enjoying the same thing. Lots of people with dogs so be aware of that as well. It is a wonderful place for a family as the little ones can easily walk the mile trail and enjoy the views and wildlife in the lake (turtles, ducks, etc.). They won't even realize they just walked the mile. The now rent canoes for $8 an hour. Although I haven't tried it yet, it is available. There are no picnics allowed and really no where to picnic.
A pleasant little park and great place to take a moderate walk and enjoy the out of doors. My best friend took me and I loved it.
Park the car and enjoy a walk around the pond and waterfall, through the vegetable or wildflower gardens (spring-fall) or around the lake (with swans). Beautiful, Enjoyable and free!
If you want to take a walk go to this nature center. You can take your dog too! Its a beautiful place to walk or jog. Husband and I go often since we live close by.
This place is phenomonal. Gorgeous settings, well kept areas, and lots of stuff to do. Been there with the kids - loved it. Been there with the hubby - even he loved it!
Lake Katherine is a relatively unknown gem in the suburbs. We try and walk the walking trail (~ 1 mile) that is around the lake as much as possible. No matter the time of year the changing trees and the birds give this trail a beautiful back drop. We even enjoy taking the trail walk in the winter. The trail is wide and well maintained but really only for walking or running as it is covered with wood chips. Strollers and bicycles will have a tough go of it.Many of the trees and bushes are labeled with their common and specie name as well as signs indicating wildlife habitat. The "field house" is also for rent and its setting overlooking the lake and woods is very attractive. Our family has had a few events there including baby/wedding showers. The kitchen is well equipped and all is kept very clean. On the South and East side of the building is a scenic area that includes waterfalls and pools.Nice place, very clean, go enjoy it!
Came into town for a Saturday evening wedding. It was a beautiful day; and we wanted spend the morning outdoors and get some exercise. Lake Katherine was just what we were looking for, close, easy to find, no charge to enter or park. A simple, beautiful nature park, with a marked one-mile trail around the lake. The wood chip path has markers for the various trees and plants.
Very well kept 1 mile trail that serves as a great place to get away while you get your exercise. Only downfall is that the trails are woodchips so bringing the little ones that are pushed in strollers is difficult.
