Beautiful (but not highly ornate) cathedral in the heart of the city. Lots of great brunch choices after Mass!
Went to mass here on our last trip to Chicago. Loved seeing the inside of the cathedral. Would highly recommend everyone to see this place.
Went to mass here in February. The choir was outstanding. The wooden ceiling and the stained glass windows are incredible. The only thing that seemed out of place were the huge marble panels by the ceiling. That must have been a bad renovation decision.
The architecture of the cathedral is very beautiful, both inside and out. There are many Mass times to choose from as well. There are any number of people there who can answer questions about the art and environment and history of the cathedral. It's worth seeing this masterpiece. It's an active parish and is due reverence once inside.
While visiting Chicago, attended services, heard an inspiring sermon, and listened to an excellent choir. Well worth seeing and participating.
This is great for the spiritual renewal you will need for the busy pace of the great city. The architecture is exceptional and the energy so renewing! Location is great - get renewed and back to shopping or lunch!
We loved the mass and enjoyed the surrounding neighborhood. The cathedral is beautiful and inviting.
I got this opportunity to visit this beautiful church on a Sunday evening mass. First reaction was WOW !! The place is so beautiful inside you can't describe in words (you need to be poet). After a long time I found a place where I can peacefully talk to almighty. The prayers and songs were forcing me to recite along with the crowd, (though I was not able to,reason doesn't matter). The learning I got from today's mass " How is your prayer?". Father told the mass the 5 mins of everyday prayer which can help you to be in contact with God . 1 minute in the morning asking him to guide you to do good things and help others during your day. 1 minute in the noon to tell him how is your day going on. 3 minutes in the night before going to bed, first minute to ask forgiveness for the things which did not go well or where you could have done better, second minute to seek His blessings for all the good you did in the passing by day, third asking His help in planning your next day . I am not knowledgeable of catholic customs , however everything was so incoming, had the sacred bread distributed to everyone. After the final prayer , it felt amazing when I found father himself greeting "happy week ahead" to everyone in person at the gate of church. I recommend this place to everyone. It doesn't matter what religion you follow , You are most welcome there.
They had many Mass times and were well set up for the crowds (que lines outside). Go very early to get seats for High Holy Days.
We attend mass at Holy Name annually during our January Chicago shopping trip. The woodwork on the ceiling is absolutely beautiful. Mass is always well attended, which warms my heart in this day in age. The only negative is that the singing/cantor is very hard to follow - never loud enough.
It had been years since I was in this cathedral but I was there recently for a wedding and rediscovered how beautiful it is. It's not ornate or lavish. It's simple, practical elegance.
The Church service was wonderful. The singing and organ playing was so professional. It made me want to participate in the singing!
This was a grand church which brought back thoughts of days gone by. The Mass(Sunday, 12:30) was a high mass with all the pomp and circumstance that you would expect. There was a diverse population including many young people. The Deacon and the priest were welcoming.
We went to Mass at 5:15 on a Saturday and it was very busy but an amazing Cathedral -just beautiful. A must see if you are in the area.
