Wonderful production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Magnificent ambience! This Theatre exudes history; authentic and old school. Very much a part of Chicago's history. Very short ride from Thompson Chicago .
Go see it! Soon! While it is about feminism, the humor is broad and accessible whether you're a feminist or not, and a female or not. Don't let the posters fool you (a martini with the Venus symbol as a stirrer).
We saw "Rapture, Blister, Burn" there just last night. There truly wasn't a bad seat in the Goodman theatre. The show itself was OK...but certainly not as bad as being "one of the worst plays ever' in my opinion. I and 3 of my girlfriends thought that there were some generally funny parts to this play...and we were even schooled on different feminism views in this world! Interesting to say the least! Loved the tasteful theatre...
I'm a fan of The Goodman, attended many performances. But their current offering (saw it last night) is so astoundingly, breathtaking awful that it boggles the mind. "Rapture, Blister, Burn" has atrocious dialogue badly acted. While it might have been au courant in, say, 1975, today it is beyond dated and bordering on the stupid. It is insulting to women and contemporary feminism. Now, that might be OK if it were satire, or even just funny, but it's not. It is turgid and boring. Do not, do not, waste your time with this piece of dreck.
Traditional thing for my family and the story, actors, and themes effects introduced was outstanding
We saw the Second City performance of Twist Your Dickens. It was hilarious. The theater is very impressive. We were not in the large theater but the portion we were in was very modern and comfortable. The location is easy to find.
We went to see the satirical version of the classic Dickens Scrooge. The theatre is easily found in the central Chicago loop and is central to shopping and restaurants. This was one of the few less expensive theatres in town; but, the show was great and the theatre very nice because all the seats are good in such a small space!Definitely reserve in advance as it does not have much space/seating.
We had tickets for "A christmas carol". We had a great view from the mezzanine. The play was very good with beautiful decors and special effects. I would definitely recommend this play to anyone in Chicago during the Holidays.
My family and I see "A Christmas Carol" here every year (this was our 7th year!) and it never fails to amaze us. The atmosphere of the theater is great--bustling but not overcrowded, so friendly and cheerful. Snacks such as cookies and candy are sold in the lobby, to be eaten during the show. We have seen other plays, such as "The Jungle Book", here as well. In every play, the actors (particularly Larry Yando) and scenery are fantastic. Buying tickets online (for shows like "A Christmas Carol") is a hassle because the site is very slow and hard to navigate, but please do not let this discourage you. The experience is ten times worth it!
My son and I bought tickets for a last minute trip to Chicago. We were fortunate to be able to find two seats together for the Tuesday matinee. The seats were perfect, but I do agree that there aren't bad seats to be had. The ushers were courtesy and seemed to know what they were doing. As people have mentioned, there is a nice area outside the theater to purchase drinks, etc.The production itself was quite good, although there was a technical glitch that stopped the show for about ten minutes. I started just after 2 pm and ended at 4:25.I hope to make this a tradition!
Fun show, theatre is very nice and easy to get to. Nice snacks and bar themed to the show were available. Theatre was clean and staff was helpful
Wonderful! The Theater is on the smaller side, but seats were fantastic. There isn't a bad seat int he house. Ticket takers and greeters were courteous and efficient. The show started at about 8:05 (an 8:00 start time) and (almost) everyone was seated on time. Acoustics were great and we were close enough to feel a part of the show. It was a great venue to see a terrific show.
Our family trip to Chicago added a delightful twist this year by seeing A Christmas Carol at The Goodman. Let me start with a few negatives. Not the production itself, but with the facility. Purchased our tickets online. Decided to splurge and get the private box seats for our group of 7. It appeared that we purchased six seats in one box with the seventh seat in the adjacent box. Upon our arrival we find three seats in a box with our other three seats one level below and the seventh seat in an adjacent box. So our family had to split up.Other reviews have mentioned a coat check and pre-ordering drinks for intermission. Not sure how they knew about these services. Certainly not advertised and certainly not mentioned upon our arrival. In fact, had a little difficulty just finding our seats. Waited in one line only to find that we were in the wrong area. Now that being said, the production was truly amazing!!! This particular version brought life and humor into what is traditionally a somber and dramatic piece. All of the actors were just outstanding and enjoying their time on stage!!! With so many children in the performance, I expected a dropped line or two. If there were any, they went unnoticed. The stage itself was spectacular. Amazing sets and special effects!! Hats off to everyone!!!!
