Very nice, pleasant place to be. The campground was quiet, the bathhouse clean. Ranger Susan is the best. She did not even seem to mind us pestering her to find out if there were any cancellations so we could extend our stay another night.

Why did we pay $5.00, except to help Governor Scott and team. We have been to many State and National Parks, and by the way we do live here in the area. This State Park is one of the worst we have been to. Not much to do, One very boring trail and and small amount ofDead River leading to Lake Griffin. If you have a boat, or camper then it might be worth the admission. For anything else you are throwing your money away and would be much better to visit any of the great County Parks. Even the small playground was old and faulty!Go visit one of the other County Parks and see what a difference.

THE PARK: Nice staff, clean restrooms, gorgeous waterways! CAMPING: No privacy or vegetation between sites. Map on reservation site (as always) was misleading . We purposely picked a site that looked off the beaten path...get there & everyone is right on top of each other. I don't know which kept me up more...the Highway noise, (which included sirens multiple times both nights) or the drunken college frat site with the screaming & shouting. Plus, the douche bags smoking pot outside the restrooms. Riddle me this...why would a park own ACRES of land, yet cram everyone into a tight little circle RIGHT next to the Hwy? We won't be back because of that.OVERVIEW: If you're a college student or have recently been featured on "PeopleofWalmart.com" looking for a place where you can drink, smoke pot, & hoop/holler all night without a care for the families around you just trying to have a peaceful night, well....it looks like this is the place you'll feel at home.

This park is extremely tranquil, which is hard to believe since it's right off of Hwy 441. Soon as you ride into the park, you leave the hustle & bustle of city life behind. It's amazingly quiet and serene. Great place to meditate or just to enjoy nature. Small playground for kids. Half mile nature trail. A dock on black waters of Dead River. Awesome river for canoeing into Lake Griffin. All for the low admission price of $4. Totally worth seeing just to take a break. Don't come here if you're looking to be entertained. If you do come, don't miss the Mammoth Live Oak!

Was here in April as wanted to see large tree it was something to see. Great place if you want to have a picnic or just to hang out

Nice quite nature preserve. Good family nature area for walking, picnics, camping. Old Oak trees, etc.

This is a great park for locals, perhaps those entertaining children, having a picnic or if you want to take a kayak or canoe ride. Otherwise there is not much here, and I was a bit underwhelmed...

Have taken several day trips here enjoyed them all. Love fishing from the pier and watching the boats launch. Has really nice picnic area. Fun watching the ducks on the canal, and the gators playing. Lots of sqirrels and other wildlife.

Nice campground. Very well kept and attentive a friendly staff. Not too much to do. Just one trail and canoeing/kayaking. We were here for the weekend only so that was fine. A lot of road construction at the entrance and the park is close to the road. Heard some sirens but nothing else bothered us. Beware of ticks and mosquitoes, they are abundant. Take precautions. Overall, a great little park if you want a weekend getaway!

Loved the large old oak. Lots of shade and picnic tables. A nice lessure trail to walk. Boat access and canoe and kayak rental.

Just outside The Villages, this park provides a nice getaway if you want a picnic or camp for the weekend. The is a ramp if you care to boat, kayak, or canoe on the large lake. We chose to kayak. It was a great evening, and yes there are gators out there!

Small campground - only 40 sites and only 7 have full hookups but beautiful none-the-less. Peaceful out of the way with lots of trees for shade. Spots are level and spacious for an older campground. Bathhouse and laundry are immaculate for those w/o sewer hookups. You will never realize you are only minutes away from all there is to do in central Florida. Kayaking and canoeing right from a boat launch in the park. There is even a boatride to see the larger lake for a nominal fee. As usual, rangers and volunteers are a wealth of information. Only four miles from The Villages with their plethora of shopping. Will definitely come back again.

Just an hour north of the hustle and bustle of Orlando sits a quiet country oasis. This park is ideal for camping, picnics, and canoeing on the Dead river. My brother and I spent the night here and really enjoyed the camp site. I highly recommend it.

I have launched my kayak from the park's boat launch for a great paddling trip around the lake. Lots of wildlife and yes, I have always seen gators. Just paddle around the shore line for some awesome bird watching. I have been there twice now and it's just as good the second time.

Camped with a pop-up trailer and three kids, ages 9, 8 and 5. It is a lovely, small campground with just enough to make everyone happy, and only 1 hour from Orlando. The big attraction is one of the largest live oak’s in Florida. It is awe-inspiring and I was happy to see that the kids could climb on it. Bring a fishing pole and catch fish with hot dogs at the pier. We rented 2 canoes for only $4.85 and spent a lovely hour on the Dead River (which leads to Lake Griffin). Nature trails are not long but still peaceful. Thrilled to hear a great-horned owl at our campsite one night. This campground is not too far from the road so you can hear some traffic, but it did not deter from a great family camping experience. No bugs in January!
