What a disappointment! This place was highly recommended. When we got there the early afternoon of 3/11/2015, a very rude lady bartender wouldn't even ask us what we wanted. We finally went up to the bar to which she remained busy doing nothing rather than walk down a couple of steps to wait on us. Once she finally did, we told her we were from out of town & how excited we were to have one of their Bloody Mary's everyone raves about. She replied with "He's only here on Sundays & I don't make them.".To the Manager or owner: This bartender is a most unfriendly person & drove away business...will not give you a good rating on Yelp for sure.
We stopped into this bar for drinks after reading that it is the oldest saloon in Florida. We had heard about the Bloody Mary and it was worth the trying. The drink came with some many garnishes that it was an appetizer itself. The building was nostalgic but there were very few patrons. No bar food, or even snacks. Interesting but we wondered how they stay in business?
Yes, they do allow smoking and that was bit offputting at first and the reason why I gave it 4 stars. Luckily for us there was only one person who lit up. With a lot of smokers, we might have given it a quick look but would not have stayed for a drink. But, it's really worth stopping in and taking a look and the planters/pirates punch was really good. The bar itself is really a piece of art. Don't know if the murals on the wall are original but they are quirky and fun. And how long has it been since you've seen a cigarette machine and a Wurlitzer! Well worth the visit even with the smoky smell.
Great bar atmosphere! We loved Heidi the bartender and the cast of local characters who are clearly regulars during happy hour. They are even dog friendly - that's my kind of bar! Try one of the local beers.
Stopped by on my way back from dinner around the corner on the bartenders recommendation at the restaurant. According to the locals (haven't researched it myself), this place has been pouring liquor uninterrupted since 1903!! It still has the original bar backdrop! Great local bar to stop in and grab a drink. Had live music on a Monday eve. Not too busy. Bartender was ~good~, not the best and was more interested in the friends (2) at the other end of the bar, but I really didn't care.Cool place to check out for a drink or to tie one on!
This is a must bar to visit if you are staying or just visiting down town.Try the pirates punch, if you dare.
This place is right on Centre street and it's claim to fame is being the oldest bar in Florida. It has multiple rooms but is set up a little odd. The bathrooms are definitely old!!! Try the Pirate Punch or one of the many beers on tap. Not a lot of frills here but worth a drink!
I had one of the best NYE's I have ever had at any bar. They had a great band playing and the bartenders where on point. Every time I ordered a drink it was right in front of me in 5 mins. I can not think about a better time I had in such a long time. Good job Palace Saloon.!!!
Visited Amelia Island and had to try the oldest bar in Florida! Had a very social, friendly, welcoming atmosphere to it with delightful staff and a nice varied selection of beer, liquors wines et al. Will definitely return when I'm back in the area!
Felt like a member of the community here. The vice mayor, museum docent and a tour guide were all super friendly and convivial. Wife and I had a great time. Tin ceiling, huge carved wood bar and murals were way cool. Highly recommended. Please net, this is a smoking bar.
Thank you for your review of The Palace Saloon. We are glad that you enjoyed our fun atmosphere and happy hour. The Palace is a smoking bar but, our adjoining bar, Sheffield's at The Palace is always smoke free. We look forward to your next visit!
lots of fun to be had here . the locals make this place almost like an amusement park for the drunk and delirious. the drinks are very well priced and poured generously. the local pirate club frequents the bar and they are a ton of fun. lots to see and do in the area
I forgot I had been in there five or six years ago. Wife and I stopped in for a drink of the alcoholic variety. Beer selection was somewhat limited but I enjoyed a Bass/Guinness combo which was good as it was hot as fire outside with pretty good humidity. Bartender was excellent, very attentive even though he was pretty busy. They are famous for a punch drink but we didn't have one of those. The decor is minimal, with limited seating, I bet they could only seat maybe 25 people. No meals or appetizers that I saw, just drinks. The bar itself is pretty cool looking, all wood with some interesting busts of women on each side of the mirror. I guess it's kind of a place you need to say you've been at least once.
A great place to grab a cocktail before dinner. The bartenders Rob and Johnny definitely know how to pour a beer and the top shelf margarita's were awesome. You will have to ask them why the fans only have 2 blades, great story.
Who doesn't love a venerable 100+ year old wooden bar with a ton of character? As soon as we walked through the door, we loved this place. Bartender Johnny Miller was FANTASTIC; the drinks were poured well and he was very personable. Other patrons at the bar were friendly and engaging. We could have stayed here for hours, if it weren't for the call of good food from down the street... and the need to drive home! Next time we're in Fernandina, we'll get a room and make a night at the Palace.
