Ceres is the goddess of Agriculture who stands atop the State Capitol Dome. I've been fortunate enough to have had a private tour (due to a charitable auction). I've stood at her feet. You don't need to get that close to enjoy her. Also, visit the Statehouse- it's worth the time.

The Capitol is an attraction, and this statue is something to look at when you visit the capitol. It's not clear why this gets its own entry.

...as you enter the Capitol grounds. What looks like a crown is spikes to keep pigeons off her head. My 200mm lens could get a decent picture of her, if you want a good close-up bring the doubler.

The statue on top of the Vermont State House, often referred to as Ceres, is actually named Agriculture. The original statue was carved by Larkin Mead but the current wooden lady was a replacement made by Dwight Dwinell, Sgt. at Arms of the State House, in 1938, when the original had rotted.

Ceres (or Demeter for those who prefer Greek) presides over the State House atop the false dome....rather in keeping with that architectural slight of hand, Ms. C is not stone, but carved out of local wood...after all these years, is also still single.....
