We have a membership here year after year and enjoy just taking time off on a weekend to go up and see the animals. The sloth bears is probably my wife and Is favorite exhibit. Grizzly Ridge is well done and the new animals just add to the value of the place. The last time we went was in February where we went around a bit in the cold.
How many times have you gone to a zoo, and while you enjoyed your visit for the first 90 minutes or so, your feet were worn out, your patience grew increasingly short and you wondered to yourself, "How many monkeys do you need to see before something nasty happens?" Well, for one, this zoo DOES NOT have any monkey pit, cage or a gaggle of the small primates. Also, it's the perfect size! You can walk through the entire place in a couple of hours (a little longer if you need to take copious notes!) Everything is clean, well-maintained and they have a variety of attractions, in keeping with the times and the big zoos!!! There is also a very large "food court," and a few eating/drink spots scattered throughout the well-landscaped business. Plenty of parking and handicap accessible. It is HIGHLY recommended!
I didn't have much to go on, but when I took my daughter to the Akron Zoo, I wasn't expecting too much. What I ended up seeing was a small, but very well utilized zoo that had a good amount of quality exhibits that seemed to put a priority on quality rather than quantity. The Akron Zoo is indeed a small zoo, but even in 10 degree weather, we spent about an hour and half. Even in the cold, most of the animals were out, which really helps make the Zoo a 365 day destination. The other thing that stuck out, much like the Toledo Zoo and completely unlike the Columbus Zoo, the Zoo is an actual zoo with exhibits of animals, not a bunch of kiosks. So what Akron lacks in size, they help make up for with concentrating on animal exhibits.Animals range from the typical tiger, lion, red pandas to a modest sized aquarium to an aviary (not open in the middle of winter), penguins, otters, llamas (alpacas?). The typical zoo fair in general, though no large primates, giraffes, or elephants which would require a good deal of space to house properly. Once we were finished walking through, I felt like we had seen enough and definitely gotten our money's worth. Not quite as good as the Toledo Zoo, but still a pretty high quality. We'll definitely be heading back to this zoo in the future.
this is a fun zoo to go see if you don't have a lot of time. you can be in and out in about 2 hrs with kids it also offers great views of akron too.
This zoo is a very nice "hometown" zoo which continues to grow year over year. It is well maintained.
A visit to the Akron Zoo is a fantastic way to spend a few hours. The size of the zoo is just right for families with children or for grandparents with grandchildren. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits and the pathways between exhibits are enchanting. All exhibits have been updated so they are modern and attractive. The zoo partners with other zoos so the animals change from time to time so that there is usually something new and interesting for people who visit often. Season family passes are a good buy for those who live local and like to just get away to the zoo whenever the little ones need something to do. Parking is plentiful and convenient too.
This zoo has grown enormously over the years. It's a lot of fun. It is ideal for an outing with small children, as there are lots of spots along the way where they can climb on playground equipment, etc. The slide through the otters is an especially big hit! If you have little kids, definitely buy an annual pass and come and go as their mood suits. Well worth it!
We use to take our kids there when they were younger. In the past 4 years there have been some major upgrades done. For a medium size mid-western city this is a great community zoo.
I first went to this zoo when I was about 5 years old! That was over 60 years ago! It's come a long way over the years and It's a great place for youngsters and adults. You can bring a picnic or buy food at the zoo. It's very clean and well kept. I'm proud to have grown old with this wonderful zoo and have brought my children and grandchildren many times and we continue to enjoy it.
The Akron Zoo has become one of the best attractions to visit any time of the year. It is family friendly and just the perfect size to navigate, whether you are a small child or a senior citizen. The landscaping is beautiful in the spring and summer and there are so many natural habitat areas to view the many variety of animals, birds and aquatic creatures. It's one of the best deals in Akron. There are plenty of areas to enjoy a picnic lunch or dinner that you can bring from home. There is plenty of parking available but there is a fee to park per car. They have a lot of great attractions like Penguins, polar bears, Siberian tigers, and an aviary with many species of birds. There is something of interest for everyone of any age.
The zoo is on the smaller side. Not very many animals, and not a ton of attractions, but is well organized and maintained, Just built Grizzly Ridge is great, the carousel and western town are big hits with my kids.
I have lived in akron all my life and grew up with this local zoo. It's amazing to see what our little ole zoo had become. It's beautiful and sweet. Short on time but needing to entertain the kids this is the place to visit in akron. A little gem tucked in akron
If you like a small zoo with everything pretty close, this is perfect. I've taken my kids there for the last 5 years...updated and not too much walking.
My review of this place was excellent! My grandchildren were here and this place was excellent. I have not been here since my youngest was 5 (this was 20 years ago) and this was excellent
This is the perfect place to take the kids or grandkids. A small zoo with great displays, hands on learning and wonderful programs. A community zoo that is well supported by the local tax payers and continues to exceed expectations. A must see while in town with the kids!
