and Fun Filled Time at the beach to hang-out--sun bathe with the whole family or with friends--picnic tables --grills and ice cream too
This park does not have a lot of beach front, but has concrete blocks stretching about 300 feet into Lake Erie that kids love to walk out on. The park has a walking trail atop a hillside that overlooks the beach and Lake. Fall leaves are beautiful here just as they are everywhere around the Cleveland area. If you are looking for a more typical beach setting, however, head East to Headlands Beach State Park near Painesville.
Like the parking facility, picnic area, and being near a beach and water. To get to the water you have to walk over stones and broken tiny shells. No life guard was on duty when we were there on a Weds afternoon. Not sure if they have one at other times or not. I would be afraid that there may be under currents near the rocks that jet out on the outter sides of the beach. Was not one of my favorite beaches but if it was a real hot day they I would have been more inclined to deal with the stones and shells.
This is a beautiful park. A great place to sit and watch the sunsets during the summer months. Very well taken care of.
My family went to say good bye to the summer at his beach. It's sandy and clean. We were lucky that the Lake were quite calm but people should know that this lake changes very fast . Always check before going there. Lot of green and picnic area around.
The beach is a sandy beach with plenty of sea-shells for foragers. The park area above has walking trails & ample parking. There are a couple of rock piers that jut into the lake - perfect for taking in the late evening sunset.
This is a beautiful park. There ARE a lot of steps to get down to the beach, I think of it as good exercise! There is also handicap parking available (no steps at all to take) just turn right into the parking lot and follow the path that veers right. The beach is quite large, though on higher tide days the water can be in pretty far. It's usually really clean unless you go right after a storm. Lake Erie is the most tumultuous of the great lakes and storms will stir up and bring up to the beach the occasional dead fish. The groundskeepers are excellent though at cleaning up in a timely manner. I love the sunsets. On really clear days you can see the islands way off in the distance to the West, as well (on very rare occasions)as Canada to the North. On any day you get a wonderful view of downtown Cleveland to the East. It's nice to watch the sunset and then hang out long enough to see the Cleveland skyline all lit up. There is a great little ice cream stand at the top of the steps, it occupies a part of the old lighthouse, which is still standing but no longer in use. There are grills, swing sets for the kids, plenty of picnic tables, as well as a large pavilion, lots of trees and shady areas, bathrooms, water fountains and faucets and pop machines. If you're there late enough and mosy past the pavilions you'll witness all of the raccoon families who come to check out the garbage cans before they are emptied. They act like they don't even see you if you just walk by on the path. Beach glass hunting is great in the mornings, especially on the section of beach towards the East, as they don't rake it on the very end and so is much more natural. Hot days are pretty busy. Holidays, I don't even bother going because there are just too many people. On a typical summer day the crowds are pretty much gone by 7 or so. In the early spring and fall it's peaceful. I've often gone and pretty much had the whole place to myself, but lifeguards and the ice cream stand are only open in the summer. I love watching storms come in over the water. Can you tell it's one of my favorite places? I recently spent three weeks in Florida, went to numerous beaches on both the East and gulf coasts, and I missed my little beach with it's soft sand and perfect atmosphere! I just love this place.
Thanks to the staff at our hotel we found this gem of a place. The park is beautiful and is extremely clean and family friendly. Stairs lead you down to the lake and lots of places to put up an umbrella and lay some towels out to enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Erie. Unfortunately we only put our feet in because there were signs that said there was too much bacteria for swimming. Still worth the visit and a nice place to relax. They have a nice little place in the park that sells some delicious ice cream as well along with picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch or even dinner.
Wide sandy beaches, excellent frozen custard and direct handicap access. Includes the Lake Erie Science Center, shopping and dining in historic buildings as well as the nationally renowned Huntington Playhouse.
I'll just cut to the chase: I would never swim in the lake. The beach is clean, so don't worry about that. So other than swimming, it's a good place to tan, read a magazine, walk around, eat ice cream, have a picnic. Don't forget that you can see downtown Cleveland in the distance. Very pretty. There are still many good times to be had here!
nice beach plenty of tables for picnics, ice cream stand on the grounds. Huntington playhouse on the gounds and a resaurant
Visited Huntington Beach in Bay Village twice recently and this is a very family oriented beach. The beach was clean and lifeguards available. I also liked that there were a couple of shady spots if you are not a fan of the sun. There is ice cream also available but the line is always long but if you can stand the wait, go at it. This beach is not the biggest nor widest, we almost bumped into people. The sand contains broken shells so be careful, they make you get out for 15mins, the hike up the stairs back to the car can be tiresome after being in the water or with kids and beach supplies. There is a park attached and a walking trail across the street with bathrooms.
Spent a lot of good times at Huntington Beach many years ago, and it still is a beautiful place to visit. Great location for family picnics, views of Lake Erie and Cleveland. Happy times!
A great place to go and relax. Especially in the fall. With Mitchell's Ice cream at the top of the beach, who could ask for more. The sand is cleaned every day and a long walk through the adjoining park can put you in touch with nature.
This is a beautiful, clean beach, there are steps to the beach, but also handicapped access. It is Lake Erie at its best. Be sure to stop at Honey Hut Ice Cream while there too. I almost hate to share this one-as it is my place to go when I need to go relax, recharge and get grounded.
