In the arts district in downtown canton the First Friday of every month is a fun atmosphere with lots to do and look at and eat and explore. It's a great date idea or just a hangout with friends or a family outing. When I went in December we listened to Christmas Carolers, walked through a few museum displays, watched as kids rode by in the free sleigh ride pulled by a beautiful white horse, enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant, got free cocoa and cookies and warm smiles at the Salvation Army, enjoyed the live nativity and petting zoo, took pictures in front of the grand christmas tree and enjoyed walking around together and taking it all in. I suggest going. It's a good experience.

This is what to see & do in downtown Canton. There are a growing number of talented artists and galleries within a 6-block radius. The Arts District has really turned downtown into an event!

I have been involved with the Downtown Canton Arts District for years. And, I've seen the ebbs and flows, and stops and starts of new galleries and studios, restaurants and other businesses. And you know what? It's a GREAT work in progress, always evolving, always improving, offering a walkable way to enjoy great dining (of the non-chain nature) and fun and interesting places to shop. It's not the mall and it's not San Antonio ... but it's Midwest hospitality and surprises ... at their very, very best.

There are some don't miss places in the Canton Arts District. If you're there Wednesday-Saturday 12-5pm, make sure to check out all the local art galleries like Second April, Translations, Lynda Tuttle's, The Hub, The Joseph Saxton and Journey Art Gallery. All of these places are so great for shopping for unique gifts. In the evenings, you can enjoy fine dining at places like Basil, Tapas 218, Benders, or Lucca. Or grab a bite at George's (best burgers around), Napolis, Cheese Louise, Amvets, or Conestoga. After dinner, check out a concert at Buzzbin or the Auricle where beer is abundant, or if martinis are more your style, stop in at Piccianos.

Not much to say, except avoid it, the crime rate is too high, and the art is basic at an expensive price. The restaurants are good though, just park in a lighted area, and be watchful.

Full of Interesting galleries and loads of dining options, something for everyone in this area of downtown

Three excellent venues surround the district currently (George's Bar - now serving awesome food and live music, The Auricle - which has no food but the occasional national music act, and Buzzbin - for local musicians). Love all of the little galleries now peppering the area - and it looks like downtown Canton's time has finally come.

Thriving art galleries , eateries in small downtown area. Worthwhile in good weather. Some very interesting traveling exhibits on display at times, other times mediocre

Always enjoy bringing the family down for all of the fun on First Fridays - sidewalk art, ice sculptures, bands, art shows, good food, etc. But it's also nice to stroll around without the crowds during the week. There always seems to be something new popping up.

Rob Hankins came to Canton 7 years ago and saved downtown by making a charming and exciting arts district. He's responsible for restaurants opening and doing well and people actually moving to and living downtown. The foundation associated with the Chamber of Commerce. It is a non profit and receives no government funding. Their budget is 3 million and all raised locally. They award grants and 97 cents of every dollar stays in the district. Something for every one, good causes, lots of talent, music, painting, drawing, shopping and my favorite - eating.Come to Canton and make a day of it. You'll enjoy your visit!

Just going to first Friday every month downtown will provide you with a whole host if options to enjoy. Art, restaurants, stores open and a friendly crowd make it a festive treat,

This address is misleading. The arts district starts at 6th St NW with wonderful galleries and then goes south to 3rd St NW, between Market Ave & McKinley Ave. be sure to check the award winning art at the all the galleries.

22 artist studios (open when artists are there working or during a special events) plus 7 galleries (larger spaces and open during regular hours) plus 44 pieces of public art = awesome. What's fun is many of the artist hothouses are off the beaten path and worth finding. The Hub, 2nd April, Elemental Arts, Lynda Tuttle's Gallery, Joseph Saxton Gallery, Translations, Kevin Anderson are the "big guns" but their are many many artists WITHIN those spaces who shine, many artists who rotate shows, and much much more involving the studio spaces. Fun, colorful, loud or quiet, vibrant, genuine and passionate. This describes the artists AND their work. It's great to see the Canton Arts District evolving year after year. If you're visiting for the first time, stop by the First Friday/ArtsinStark office "under the string of lights" on 4th Street just west of the bright yellow Buzzbin Music Shop for maps and upcoming events.
