This is a great place to go for fishing, boating, jet skiing, and swimming. It has a beach for kids to play in sand etc. Camping is available, but does not have utilities available. Very nice marina for boats. Has nature trails, biking, programs for kids, and music in the summer. Be aware, Mosquito Lake was named that for a reason! In fact, mascot is a mosquito. Great recreational facility. Highly recommend.
Not a fisher or boater, but there are always a lot of small boats and fishermen. Skip the Swimming area, a muddy, not appealing area. We do go there and walk . The campground is empty now and the roads provide a nice walking area. Does not really have nice trails though the park.. There are ample picnic tables about, providing a close spot to have a picnic just to get out. The bathrooms are outhouses with no running water. There is a very nice Dog Park there that is quite popular. Running water and a place to hose off the dog. Facilities are nicer for Fido than Humans ! There is an business across from the Marina that does sell food and other misc items. I believe it is seasonal though. The adjoining campground does have a bit more amenities and provides for both tent and Vehicle camping.
My family and I spend the weekend at Mosquito Lake State Park at the end of June. We utilized the campground as well as the lake and found both to be of nice quality. The only downside to the park is the lack of hiking trails. The campground: The campground is nice. It's decently large and spread out so your neighbors are not overly a concern. We reserved site 154 which had nice tree protection on both sides to make the campsite slightly more private. The site also had a short walking trail down to the lake where there was a bench to enjoy the view. There were many, many mosquitoes along the water's edge, but that is to be expected in a park with a name like this. The lake: the lake is plenty big enough for unlimited horsepower boats. My family spent the afternoon tubing and rarely had to worry about other boaters, on a Saturday afternoon! Not busy at all.Other activities: Although I like Mosquito Lake State Park, the lack of hiking trails is one downside. There are only a few trails in the park, none very long. (From past experiences at this park the bridal trails have always been in rather rough shape, I did not explore them this visit)There is also a disc golf course. I don't play the game so I cannot comment on the quality of the course, but it looked nice enough. A few of the holes are along the water, one even requiring a fairly lengthy shot over water. Looks fun enough.Overall the park is worth visiting, even if just for an afternoon.
