After going to the rock and roll museum I wanted to find a good beach and found this place. A bit of a drive about an hour from downtown. Nice beach and well taken care of. Weather was great only got up to about knee deep since the Lake Erie was still a little cold from the bad winter but it was clean. Walked up to the lighthouse and back as well!!
went there for my honey's birthday on Sept 3rd. the skies were blue, the water was blue and hardly anyone was there. it was free. set up the chairs, bring a good book and listen to some funky music. perfect.
This free beach was little crowded probably because of long labor day weekend but the water was clean (little cold for my 2 year daughter). There is small boardwalk, restrooms, shelter, picnic tables, kids play area (slides etc), safeguards on the beach etc. Parking is 2-3 dollars.
My wife and I had a great time with our 3 young children at this beach. Highly recommend a visit to this beach during the summer! It was our first time there, but plan to return!
The beach was clean. Lifeguards are present. It's time for the kids to get out into the water, play in the sand, and get some energy expended before you go on with your vacation.
If you need a lovely spot to watch the sunset or the sunrise this is it. A free mini resort on Lake Erie! Water, sand and sun with a nice crowd in attendance.
We took our dog and she had a blast. They are able to run free and are not required to be on a leash. You can bring your boat here also.
Pros: clean beach, break wall calms waves. Gradual slop into the water, play sets for kids, canoe and kayak rentals. Cons: Pay for parking, bacteria warnings for water, can see Perry Nuclear Plant from beach. No shade trees. OK for locals but nothing special here.
Fairport Harbor beach is in the quaint town of Fairport Harbor. It's a very clean beach and family friendly. My son and I rented a kayak and boated around. We had such fun.
Been coming here for years. Behind a breakwall, has sandy bottom. Nice bathrooms and changing areas. Nice little food stand and shaded eating area. Perfectly maintained playground equipment, sidewalks and buildings. Lifeguards and separate area for swimming with your dogs (yes dogs still on leashes). Small charge to park ($2 I think). This park is as perfect as the day they opened it. Once you see it I can't imagine why anyone would go anywhere else.
This is a great beach for toddlers and young kids. It has a sandy bottom and is protected by a breakwall, which mutes wave action. It has a nice playground area. Part of the Lake (County) Metroparks system, it is a very well-maintained park with many activities. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available.A dog swimming area is offered down current of the people swimming area. The swimming area is supervised with lifeguards. While the breakwall is great for little kids and toddlers, teens and good swimmers likely will prefer the heavier wave action of nearby Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor-on-the-Lake.It's also recommended that no swimming take place at Fairport Harbor beach 24-48 hours after a heavy storm, when the water off the beach can experience a high bacterial count. This beach is immediately down current of the Grand River. Sometimes, as a result, Mentor Headlands, which is up current of the Grand River, can have a lower bacterial account. While Mentor Headlands is a wonderful and large beach, it currently is not as well maintained by the the state of Ohio as Fairport Harbor and has no lifeguards.Fairport Harbor beach has a small parking charge and offers an extensive course and activity schedule.http://www.lakemetroparks.com/select-park/fairport.shtml#Beach_ScheduleThe park beach is the home of the multi-day Fairport Mardi Gras Celebration every year around July 4th.
