Bed spreads and blankets were very poor quality. Not enough heavy blanets for the number of beds. No deadbolt on main door. No complimentary shower soap or shampoo. One tv in the living room only. 4 twin size beds only. Very stale smell in cabin. Door knob off the linen closet. Commisary closed during our visit but we were not informed of that when we booked. Not worth the 95 dollars per night. We love the area but would not recommend the cabins.
We visited the Mohican State Park for the first time last fall. We love the hiking trails. The area is very nice and well taken care of. We live about 2 hrs away and this may become our new favorite weekend getaway spot!
Great place to hike. Beautiful and quiet, and fresh, pure scent of the pine trees will awaken your senses.
I am lucky to live about 25 min. from here. We take our boys here every year before school and always have so much fun. We ride our bikes through the camp ground. Hunt for crawfish in the streams. Hike the trails. Climb the fire tower. There are a lot of trails. You shouldn't worry about getting lost, just watch for the markers on the trees. I recommend the dam and the waterfall. There are plenty of picnic tables for lunch and bathrooms through out the park. I also run the trails there during the warmer months. It is so pretty and what a great workout. Just watch your step and be sure to bring water. There are places to eat and stores to pick up any essentials you might need. You can rent canoes, play put-put and other activities also, if that is more your style.
We hiked in the Mohican State Park near the covered bridge in late-October. Being from Illinois, we especially appreciated the rolling hills in the area as even the drive to the park was beautiful. I definitely give Mohican State Park two thumbs up for viewing and hiking.
Unbeknownst to us, Mohican State Park has a great Halloween weekend in October. The displays by the park were great and the displays by our fellow campers were out of this world. If you like Halloween, I would suggest an October trip to the park. Great family fun, scavenger hunts, trick or treat, movies and music!
Mohican State Park is the best park in my opinion. They have something for everybody in the family. There is a lodge located away from the campground in case you want to stay in a hotel-like environment. There are cottages that sleep six if you want to have your own private space that is heated and air conditioned. There are little cabins that sleep four if you just don't want to haul your camper or tent. There are campsites ranging from primitive to full hook-ups with pull-thru sites. The campsites are large and include picnic tables and fire rings and are paved. There is a picnic grove if you just want to go for a quick picnic too. The river runs through the campground for canoeing or tubing in the summer. It is shallow enough for wading and hunting crayfish. There are some fish in the river, but it is pretty shallow in most places at the campground. In the summer the pool is open and there is a kiddie pool too. The roads are all paved so take the bikes for the kids to use. There are flush toilets and bath houses which are adequate. Two of them have laundry machines. The camp store has the usual supplies so you don't have to go out and get a package of hot dogs or bread. They serve ice cream too! There is a playground, basketball court, volleyball court, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and a small waterfall called Big Lyons Falls that is a nice hike thru the forest that most kids over the age of five could do easily. It starts at the covered bridge at the primitive campground. Don't forget to go to the gorge overlook and view the mountains and trees. You must have a reservation sometimes well in advance (like a year for cottages) and can reserve them at the Ohio State Parks website which is a little technically challenging. If you can't work it, call the 1-800 number and they will help you out. There is a nice sized IGA grocery store hidden away in Loudenville if you need groceries and deli foods.
Firetower is not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights, I went up on a cool fall day with some strong gusts of wind and hail - but the view was worth it. I parked at the covered bridge and hiked the Lyons Falls trails to the dam and back to the bridge via the Pleasant Hill Trail. Was a nice hike, even with rain all day the day before the trails were not overly muddy and it was an interesting hike with some cool sights.
We stay in the cottages every year - some need more work than others, but it's Mohican! We are here for the river, the hills and the scenery! The cottages have everything you need, even a fire ring by the river bank for a camp fire! The park is clean and beautiful with the bridge over the river; great photo op! There are hiking trails, mountain bike trails and canoe rentals close by. Park store has awesome ice cream :) - all around great place to be!
We decided to come here for hiking on a fall Saturday. It's important to note that there is no hiking near the lodge but it's a great place to get a hiking map, food and a clean restroom. We hiked along the river. It was lovely. At the covered bridge we saw a wedding party. Very sweet!
We have hiked every trail and enjoyed them all. There are 5 different trails of varying difficulty. The trail to the firetower is long and a bit steep so take water. My favorite trail is the one that leads to Big Lyons Falls. It's absolutely beautiful no matter the season and almost everyone is capable of the trail. The covered bridge is also great. The campsite can be extremely crowded during the summer months but we went last weekend 9/19 and there was virtually no one there! It was wonderful. Spacious sites and plenty to do (canoeing, mountain bike, etc).
Loved the ride, leaves were outstanding. Lots of deer at dusk. Take a quiet walk in the am and enjoy the peace and quiet.
This is a very nice State lodge in a beautiful setting. The rooms are well maintained. The staff are friendly. And the restaurant and bar have good food. The only downside was they only had one bartender for a very large crowd and the wait time for service was very long.
I live very close to the state park, so I have spent a lot of time there. They have a lot of hiking trails and horseback trails. The gorge overlook is beautiful all year round. There is canoeing, horseback riding, numerous campgrounds. The lodge is gorgeous if you like luxury "camping".
There are tons of different activities do at this park! From bike riding, canoeing, swimming, hiking, climbing the tower, to mountain biking this place has it all!!!
