The Bog is a natural preserve behind South Park in Jackson twnshp. The JHS students Building and Trades program have built a beautiful trek deck path in the lower end of the park that travels through most of the wetlands of the bog leading apprx. 3/4 mi. through the preserve. Great walking/running trails in this area. If you are quiet massive amounts of deer appear. Very Beautiful.

The Jackson Bog is a hidden treasure for nature lovers. Located at 7984 Fulton Dr. NW, Massillon, OH 44646. We have been visiting the park since it was just a dirt path through the swamp! Jackson Bog is actually a fen, an Alkaline peat land fed by natural springs created millions of years ago. There are over 20 state listed rare plants, including insect eating plants like the Pitcher Plant and the Sundew. It is home to uncommon species of Dragonflies, reptiles and amphibians. There is a 1.25 mile boardwalk, created to protect the fragile bog, more than for human ease of enjoying the park. Please do not bring dogs. This is a special place for peace, quite and the appreciation of something almost prehistoric. Dogs and inconsiderate owners are a rotten distraction. Also plan on wearing generous amounts of Deet! Do not pick anything or go off the marked trails. Enjoy !

If you love nature and being in among the hardwoods, you'll love the Jackson Bog. You would never imagine that such a beautiful natural preserve is right in the heart of a residential areaand adjacent to a high school. However, this is why it still exists. The bog is so deep it would have taken too much effort to destroy! Thank goodness! The paths through the trees and meadows and boardwalk over the bog are loaded with plant species you don't see everywhere. Birds and bugs of all sorts are everywhere. We especially loved the tree canopy. The breezy aroma of natural wetland is sumptuous. We'll go back again and again each time we're in Ohio.
