The School wants to buy the entire town claiming that they are revitalizing it. Currently in the works they are purchasing an avenue(s) by the river that has many family's only to remove them and build a stretch of road directly from the interstate for the students. The local community can never find decent housing because of the increase of students. They recently bought a very old historic bar on Stoney Hollow Blvd. Destroying all the memories only to put apartment complex to only accommodate the students. They have bought Belleview park and destroyed the golf course that used to be there many years ago. I will note however that the Belleview park has been updated but only, again to accommodate the students. The town has elected to make a new logo for the town revitalization group, Franciscan pushed onto the town their own religion mark for the logo. That's NOT the city's (community's) request, only the schools. The students drive like their in middle school which as caused many accidents on our streets and the entrance to the school. Students think that they own any parking spot they stop at. "If you don't live there, than don't park there". They have time and time again been kicked out of our local restaurants for late night loitering. They are a nuisance and should be moved away from this town. They offer to fix the city only to change it to their own image. I unfortunately hate battering locations/attraction but this has many community members very upset with much hatred towards the school just because of the students. This will never change and it will consume this town overtime.
I was here on a college visit with my daughter and was left feeling inspired by the students and faculty. The students are high achievers in both their academics and their faith. these are people that you would want your teens to hang out with - they know who they are and they are quality individuals. It is the only place I can think of where you could leave your back pack in the student union and return to find it hours later in the same spot or turned in to the lost and found. The campus is beautiful and provides for a great student life - see for yourself!
The University has amazing conferences with wonderful speakers and a moving, worshipful music ministry. The campus is beautiful and the workers are kind and helpful. Don't miss visiting the memorial to the unborn and the chapel - a moving experience
Franciscan University holds a series of conferences every summer. Many of them are youth conferences. The last two are a biblical conference and the "Defending the Faith" conference, I have attended about ten of these with my wife. They are well worth attending.
This Catholic university has the most amazing conferences! The student staff are incredible as are the facilities. The campus is small and has nice walking areas and a well-stocked religious bookstore.
We just completed our 15th consecutive Applied Biblical Studies + Defending the Faith Summer Conferences and in a word - WOW!The lineup of speaker was phenomenal, the topics covered were spiritual and uplifting. The worship opportunities are myriad including daily mass, adoration in the Christ the King Chapel, praying in the "Port" a small chapel that replicates St Francis' own chapel, the Stations of the Cross on the hillside, etc.The students who assist conference goers are fantastic and reflect the quality of the Catholic education at this wonderful school. And beautiful campus? You know it! The newly renovated Finnegan Field House is great and the new workout facilities looked fantastic. We'll be back next July for our 16th Summer Conference!
Awesome experience. Was there for most of the week, covering Journey Through Scripture and Applied Biblical Study's as well. Great over all experience.
I had a few classes and played a few tennis games at this university. First and foremost, the grounds are beautiful! Nicely resting on a hilltop. Definitely a must see, especially Catholics. Very religious institution that is known around the world. I just wish the surrounding area was nicer.
Beautiful campus...most friendly and wonderful kids you would ever want to meet. Can't beat this campus/university!
I had the honor of attending Franciscan as an undergraduate. It was some of the best years of my life. For the Catholic unfamiliar with the University there is much to take in. I recommend taking advantage of the come and see days so you can sit down during one of the professors lectures in Egan Hall. Afterwards you can celebrate Mass at Christ the King Chapel and visit the replica of the Portciuncula where perpetual adoration is observed throughout the school year. The J.C. Williams Center is the social hub of the campus and home to the amazing bookstore where you can find the most up-to-date books on various Church and social teachings along with music, movies, and University merchandise. Tour the newly renovated Finnegan Fieldhouse and see where Baron athletes will train to compete in the competitive world of D3 NCAA athletics. The John Paul II library will soon showcase a bronze statue of the newly canonized pontiff. Enjoy lunch on the go in Egan's ala carte display or sitdown and enjoy lunch with the students at the newly rennovated cafeteria, or in the JC williams center, or at lower campus' Sandella flat bread eatery. Take your time and enjoy the tranquility of the campus. You'll be glad you did.
