What's to see??? After your tour of the JM Davis Gun Museum, and the Will Rogers Memorial, go the extra few miles north from the memorial... just make a right turn, and head toward Oologah. Follow the signs to the Rogers-Dog Iron Ranch, Will Rogers boyhood home, located right on the banks of Oologah Lake. This lake is a real hidden gem of Northeast Oklahoma. You'll love it's unspoiled scenery and the surrounding area. Great fishing and water sports area as well.
Just a day or so prior to our visit, the area around Oologah had received a massive rainfall, 7 inches over a couple of days... We were headed to the Dog Iron Ranch, Will Rogers boyhood home, but the lake...overflowing with water, was something to behold. There were quite a few sailboats out on the lake, the day we visited, adding to the beauty. The Corps of Engineers, has numerous well kept campsites around the lake, which itself is a sight to behold, and a well kept secret, I might add. Conveniently located, just 14 miles north of I-44 at the Claremore exit... Take Will Rogers Boulevard, right on out!
