Great wine. Awesome views and fantastic people. There is a tasting fee if you are not a wine club member. Close to town - maybe 5 to 10 minutes.

David Hill Winery has the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Oregon on site. Their "BlackJack" Pinot is a seriously great wine. They make a Tempranillo with Rogue valley grapes that is excellent and the Chardonnay is wonderful too. The farmhouse is inviting and the grounds provide some great picnic spots. Always buy something if your want to have a picnic otherwise you are just a rude visitor. Tasting room staff were very polite and very knowledgeable about what they were pouring. You can make this a great loop on the way to Seaside by turning left as you leave the winery. Take your time - it's a beautiful drive.

Nestled back behind the little burg of Forest Grove, but a fairly short drive from the city, this delightful stop was quite memorable. The wine tasting fee was waived with our purchase, and we even got a little anniversary gift (luscious chocolates)! The wines were light in taste, and the Gewurztatraminer especially was very nice. Appetizer plate available for purchase.There are lovely tables and adirondack chairs overlooking the vineyards and rolling hills. Almost surreal.

Last Saturday we did some wine tasting in Forest Grove. This was our first visit to David HIll Winery and we were very impressed with the quality of the wines there and the beautiful setting and friendly, accomodating staff. We arrived near closing time and chose a table for two with views of the vineyards in the lovely, immaculatey clean tasting room. All of the wines we tasted were really good and we purchsed a few bottles to take home. Their Pinot Gris and one of the Pinot Noirs (they all were very good) scored high points from Wine Enthusiast.There are several sitting areas outside and picnic tables where you can relax with your tastings outside. We want to go back for a picnic lunch here when we have more time. I highly recommend David Hill when you are in the Forest Grove area for wine tasting. :)

I visited this winery when they first opened 10 years ago. It was very laid back and personal then, it is more so now. The room was crowded but the staff made sure there was room for us. They talked about the wines, were friendly and helpful. This is a stop I will make again.

Usually I'm a red drinker but with an exception of the red blend, we enjoyed their whites more. Atmosphere was county and serene. Family winery and would love to join wine club. Wine tasting fee should be waived with purchase of bottles of wine but it was not.

I've been to David Hill twice whille traveling in Oregon. The setting is beautiful providing a great spot for a picnic lunch or sharing a bottle(s) of wine. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous. I enjoy the red wines and have been a member of the wine club for 3 years. I live in the Finger Lakes region of New York State where the white wines are far superior to Oregon whites I have tasted but find David Hill whites are equal to other Oregon whites. The wines are especially good when shared at the tables in the backyard overlooking the vineyards, mountains and valleys. Well worth a visit

Beautiful location, friendly tasting room and very good wines. Whether you are looking for a relaxing place for a picnic or just a quick sip and visit you can't go wrong stopping here. There are plenty of other wineries in the area to visit as well.

Usually not too busy as it is a couple miles down a gravel road, go slow and keep dust down!. Their dessert wines are very good, Pinot Noir is good for Oregon Pinot, Farmhouse red is OK. Not familiar with their white wines. They are just about 3 miles from my house and I don't go there. They do have a small gift shop. Never been offered a tour.

My husband's and my first visit to David Hill Winery was easily one of the most delightful tasting room experiences of the many we've had in Oregon. We are serious wine drinkers and had with us another couple who enjoy wine too. All four of us agreed the wines were very good, the hospitality was warm, the tasting room was charming and that we'd be back. All David Hill wines including, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gerwirtztraminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Temperanillo, the blended red and white wines and Port are proof that a vintner can make good, drinkable wines and keep the price point within reach for everyone. There is something for everyone here.SETTING: The winery is named for it's location outlying Forest Grove, off David Hill road which was named for one of the area's early settlers. Easy to find with a GPS, the location is beautiful with vineyards surrounding and picnic tables on a lawn behind the tasting room.TASTING ROOM: The tasting room, which is in an 1830's old house which was salvaged and renovated to be the same, is bright and welcoming. Universally accessible; if you can't navigate the stairs in the front, there is a ramp in the back with an accessible parking spot across. One of the two bathrooms is accessible too. TASTING SET UP: Friendly and knowledgeable hostess (Carrie) led us through the tasting. The set up for tasting here is my favorite of formats in which you can choose from a selection of wines those which are of most interest to you to try. Much prefer this over a "fixed card" sampling.In this case, the options are any of the wines made by David Hill (with perhaps the exception of a single Pinot Noir reserved for wine club members) and for only $5 you are able to taste seven wines. Made all the better by the fact the wines are delightfully good. Even remarkable in the case of two of the seven tasted.WINES: My husband's and my favorite of the seven wines we sampled was the 2009 Blackjack Pinot Noir ($55). So named because it comes from the vineyard's Block 21. We think this is arguably the best of all 2009 Oregon Pinot Noirs we've sampled including those made in the Dundee Hills. The wines sampled in the lower price points (under $15 a bottle as I recall), a blended white called Cumberland Vineyards and a blended red called Farmhouse Red are a great value for very nice, drinkable "schoolnight" wines. The white contains a good share of Pinot Blanc, one of my favorite white varietals which is starting to be bottled as a single varietal in other parts of the Willamette Valley. I hope David Hill might also bottle as a single varietal eventually because in the blend it was distinct and delicious. Other standouts were the Reserve Merlot and a Port of Muscat ($28). The latter was apricot - caramel, delicious and just sweet enough but not too much. (They were sold out of the Port of Pinot Noir.) We who like Port are fortunate that David Hill sends their port wines to be fortified by Clear Creek Distillery in Portland. In everything is connected to everything else mode, having that fabulous distiller in the mix is an excellent thing for Port quality.THIS N THAT:1) WINERY DOGS: Three delightful winery dogs, a Golden Retriever, an Australian Shepherd, and a Catahoula mix are on hand to greet visitors. Two of the three are featured in the Winery Dogs book available to purchase in the tasting room. This is a great tasting room experience all on its' own, but the delightful dogs make it even better!2) SIP & SHOP: The tasting room has some interesting wine centric "gifties" for sale in local-ish food products (jams, nuts, cheeses, specialty pickles - including remarkable balsamic pickled figs recommended by the tasting room hostess - and so on) and otherwise (cookbooks, bottle corks, glass drying towels, soap and so on). You can get some gift shopping done while you sip wine. How's that for multi tasking?

If you are checking out a number of vineyards, this one wasn't that great! The best part was the awesome dog that greeted us. It has a cute tasting room but the Riesling was very dry and two dessert wines were beyond syrupy. Perhaps their reds are better, we weren't looking for reds. Gorgeous view!

Most of the white wines were very good but I found the reds to be a bit bitter. The setting is lovely.

Went there for a tasting....7 tastes for $5...free if you buy. Whites and ports were great...even the best reds were not pleasing to me....but I spent $250. vineyards and surrounding valley and mountains were beautiful. 3/4 mile unpaved hilly & curving access road was tricky...but well worth the visit

Seriously some of the best pinot noir in the state. Their Blackjack is absolutely excellent, and the vines from lot 21 are the oldest in the Willamette Valley

The wines are of quality with many vintages to choose from. The setting is beautiful, historic and worth the trip
