Other then a curiosity. I wouldn't waste the time energy or gas to visit this. Silly quotes and uninteresting rock what ever you call it. Very sophomoric.

Guru Road is 1.8 miles north of Gerlach on State Route 34. A normal green street sign is located on the left side of the road, marking the entrance. With the exception of the Iron Butt Association's Memorial site, all of the art on Guru lane was created by one man, Dwayne "Doobie" Williams. His son and other help to restore and maintain the art works when they have time. Guru Road is passable to nearly any vehicle up to the IBA Memorial site, after that it gets rougher and is high clearance vehicle recommended. It does return to State Route 34 after a couple of miles, but lighter vehicles would be wise to turn around at the IBA site marked by the red picnic table and license plate tree, (just past the Weather Rock). This is a wonderful place with a funkiness all it's own. Many of the stones are tributes to people that Doobie liked and respected, and much of the art works are political statements that he wanted to make, in his own way. From "Ground Zero" to the "TV Station" and gems like the Weather Rock, it's worth taking the time to walk the road and read the stones and explore the art works there. Please do not take anything from Guru Road!If you go, take water, bug repellant, sun screen and a hat most of the year. It's a wonderful place to sit and ponder many things as the clouds and sun create an ever-changing panorama out on the Playa.

I was impressed with this little town. The locals are very happy to meet all the Burners. They all go out of their way tomake your stay comfortable. Leaving camp to he'd back to town was painless. I'm glad I got to spend a bit of time here

Guru Drive is just a dirt/rock road on a rocky hillside at the north side of the Black Rock Desert to most people. ITs just outside of Gerlach so you should take a look if you are in town and its on the way to the entrance areas of the Black Rock Desert. Marked with a small green normal looking street sign it sports unusual "hippy art" mostly of rock, built by the Burning Man hardcore groups that frequent the area. SPECIAL to me is a memorial built by and for the many Iron Butt Association members who are no longer alive among us. If you ride motors, this is worth the time to check out. The drive is short & I suggest you walk it to really see it.

If you can't come for Burning Man, but want a taste of what "hippy art" is about, take a spin down Guru Road, about 2 miles out of Gerlach. Features about 2 dozen sculptures that a late local artist created from scavenged stuff, strung out along the roadside. Some make sense, others not so much. You don't need 4WD, but I wouldn't take a sedan on the rutted gravel road.
