A national park in the middle of nowhere. It is so quiet here I always feel like I should whisper when I talk. You get some cell service if you have AT&T. There is a Nevada State fish hatchery that you can get a tour of. Always great fishing and LOTS of wildlife. Nice Federal Campground that is very clean and quiet, except when the Coyotes come out at night. Watch for deer and elk.
The Ruby Marshes are a great place to visit. You can learn about the migratory birds or the other wildlife in the area. Wildlife biologists are available to give you directions and there is an amazing fish hatchery that allows tours.
We drove from Elko to Ely, Nevada, taking "back roads" so we could do some birding along the way. From Elko head over Harrison Pass to the Ruby marshes, then continue south until you come to Highway 50. A very scenic drive filled with lots of birding opportunities along the way.
Touring this area was great fun. We stopped at a ranger station and got some maps and pictures of birds we might see. We did a slow, leisurely drive through the area and saw a lot of wildlife.
