The Cat Haven in Dunlap is a must see. It's a beautiful drive into the foothills and it's not too far away from Kings Canyon National Park. The tour leaders are very knowledgeable about the cats from a science point of view as well as their personalities. It is fun to see the cats come up to the fence to see their favorite person (who is leading the tour). The tour leaders answer questions and are very personable. It's a great educational experience for anyone and the cats are just gorgeous. Jaguars, leopards, a few tigers, and more. I can't wait to get back up there to visit.
Cat Haven is an unbelievable opportunity to visit "cats" up close and personal. Our guide Jamie was very knowledgeable and made the tour delightful.
My first visit to Cat Haven was in 2011 and since then I have returned several times a year. It is just a short drive out of Fresno into the foothills of the Sierras. Each tour is led by a docent who will tell you about the species of the cat as well as personal traits of their particular cat. There are about 30 cats to see and several different species. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to do the tour. The enclosures are in a natural setting on the sides of the hills so cats aren't standing on concrete. The cats look healthy and happy, and if you're lucky you will see the owner interact with his babies! Well worth the $10/per tix.
In a beautiful setting in the mountains, you will find a wide variety of exotic feline species; Tigers, Lions, Jaguars, Leopard, Clouded Leopards, Pallas Cat, Cheetahs, and many more! The tours are very nice and offer the chance to learn about conservation and about the cats themselves. The docents are very friendly and well-informed. The facility is very clean and welcoming.
This is as close to big cats as you'll ever get. If you hear the story of big cats in captivity, you will understand why they are doing this. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.Tour is 1/4 mile over an uneven path with some elevation change so bring comfortable outdoor shoes and water (though they do have water on site). Not for people with difficulty walking.Very reasonable admission.
We took the first tour of the day(shortly after 10). I was afraid it would be too hot if we went later. They have a great breeze and most of where you stop on the tour is shaded. The tour was great although most of the cats were lazy and a sleep-no fault of the tour. I would check out the twilight tour (limited) or going late to see more activity. Very interesting information on all of the cats and so reasonably priced. $10 adults/ seniors are discounted more as are children. Wear tennis shoes or shoes with traction since it is hilly walking on dirt. Bring some water too. We really enjoyed this and will visit again and again. Dianna, the white tiger was my favorite with lots of activity. She-Beth thrilled my grandson-black tiger.
We happened to find this on a local B&B's website. We had the time and love animals so we thought we'd stop by. The tour was interesting and they have several types of cats that we didn't know even existed. The walk is on a mostly dirt trail and is steep at times. They do offer a golf cart for those that can't walk it, but it must be reserved in advance. The tour lasted over an hour.
I've been here many times and the tour is always interesting for the young and old alike. You get up close and personal with many unusual big cats. The tour guides, who are all volunteers, are extremely knowledgeable about each animal and can answer any question. The facility is a wonderful, clean, safe, educational and fun excursion for every age and a short scenic car ride from Fresno. Don't pass this experience up!
The Cat Haven is a very unique experience it an equally unique setting. The ability to view these incredible animals in a rural habit is incredible. This facility has been developed to the highest standards. It is definitely a must see.
