Moonlight is a great spot to enjoy the beach, surf, swim, have a late night fire on the beach, play volley ball and bike around. There are so many great spots within walking distance. Concept surf shop is only a few blocks away and is great for renting boards are getting surf lessons. Also, Encinitas has a variety of shops, restaurants and bars that are sure to please everyone in the family. Best of all the is a lot of free parking with walk ways for strollers or wagons.

We were visiting our son in the area and stumbled into Moonlight Beach. The waves were great. the water was beginning to be a little cold. Later in the evening we sat around a camp fire and enjoyed the light breeze, the sound of the waves crashing, the stars overhead. Great simple fun. Don't miss it. Plenty of restaurants in the area.

We came as ocean novices to surf on this beautiful beach. Surfing occurs on both sides of the swimming beach. The waves were beautiful and fun. But then two of our party ditched their board to play in the waves. Shortly they started being pulled out by the riptide, and then a huge cloud/fog rolled in, dropping visibility to zero.Very fortunately, the lifeguards knew exactly what to look for, and they rescued my 11- and 25-yr olds post panicking, but pre-drowning. We are very grateful.

We've been going here since we moved in back in '73. It was fun then, and fun now, especially since the city has rebuilt and reconfigured all of the family attractions. Everything is new, and it all looks great!

I am a coastal California artist that gets to take advantage of the natural inspiration available in Encinitas. It is a family community with annual attractions that enetertain locals...& tourists if they arrange their trip during the events. One event you should not miss is The Arts Alive Banner program where 101 local artists paint the banners that hang on HWY 101 from the unveiling Feb. 14, 2015 till the auction! For the last 15 years, this program has been headed by Sculptor Danny Salzhandler and the volunteeres at the 101 Artist Colony. It is an amazing program to see if you are a tourist! A 6 mile art exhibit can be seen hanging on the light poles while driving down Coast HWY 101 from Leucadia to Cardiff by the sea. The live auction is on a different day every year. 2015 it will be June 7 at 1:30 at the Cardiff Town Center 1:30. The creative and business community comes together for a FREE outside, live art auction of funky free flowing master pieces created by professional as well as budding local artists. Leave with a piece of Southern california and meet the artists that make this area amazing!See the 2015 Arts Alive Auction guide www.ArtsAliveEncinitas.com.. my banner is #59...You can phone in bids (760)436-2320.

This is by far my favorite place to stay! So close to everything, great beach, and best of all a wonderful hotel. The place is clean and comfortable and the staff is outstanding. We stayed there a week during thanksgiving and we are coming back very soon. This is a retro hotel, nothing over the top fancy but that's the charm of the place...LOVE!

Spent a whole day at Moonlight Beach with my gf's daughter and her husband back in September. This beach is really easy to find, just off the Coast Highway and downtown Encinitas. There's a large free parking area on a hill just above the beach, and a short walk downhill there's a grill and snack bar serving user friendly beach food and drinks (non-alcoholic). Plus, there are outdoor showers and restrooms. I also saw a volleyball net, but no one was playing. A few more steps, and you're on the beach, nice and clean with lifeguards. The day I was there it was in the upper 80s, and it was really nice just to stretch out and enjoy the hot sun. And when it got too hot, i took a dip in the Pacific Ocean. We brought our own food and drinks, so we had everything we needed for the 5 or 6 hours we were there. A great way to spend the day at a great beach!

This is the best beach in Southern California. The Good: it's never crowded. If you go left when looking at the ocean you can see the beautiful rock cliffs. We usually sit by them and relax. No Alcohol allowed! This is good because it keeps the trashy people away. You can sneak a beer just put it in a plastic cup! The Bad: no facilities. If u want food, bring a picnic basket. If you have to pee the ocean is in front of you. The boogie boarding and surfing are great! Go during the summer! Remember the Pacific Ocean is cold!!!

Moonlight Beach is beautiful by day and by night, it has Wave Crest/Woodies once a year, it is great for Boogie Boarding and Volleyball too. Moonlight beach is well maintained, plenty of lifeguards, parking, and the bathrooms and snack areas have all been remodeled. There is an area for the kids to play and a stream on one side with cat tail, butterflies, and other creatures worth checking out.

This is one of the few beaches with easy access in our area. There is quite a bit of parking, although it can be challenging in the summer. On potentially crowded days, get there early. There is a manned lifeguard tower (Check for conditions if not familiar with this beach) It's great for families with children. There are bathrooms, showers, and a snack stand. One can walk the sand beach for quite a distance in either direction.

I feel very fortunate to live right up the street from this amazing beach. Moonlight recently had a big renovation. Feels clean, safe and friendly. There's lots of parking, snack shack, courts and great sandy beaches.

New restrooms, food vendor, park for the kids, volleyball courts, plenty of sand....this is the beach!

Be sure to plan to check the tide charts if you want to walk the beach. High tide makes most of the beach inaccessible. Low tide is a wonderful time to walk to Cardiff up to Carlsbad. Beautiful sunsets seen here, chlildren's playground, showers, new bathrooms, plus food available, as well as rental of beach toys.
