Why didn't I come here sooner? Cordiano is awesome! The location is gorgeous, it's out a little past the Wild Animal Park so it is away from everything without being far away. The drive doesn't take very long and they have plenty of parking. The winery has a great view from the top of a hill and they have a very large outdoor patio. It looks like they have plenty of seating but you may want to make a reservation just in case but it is not required. The service was good and was knowledgeable about their wine and food. The wines were good but the Tempranillo was amazing. I don't buy bottles of wine from wineries when I visit but this was totally worth it. The pizza here is one of the best in the county. Absolutely delicious! The sauce and cheese and toppings were all very, very good but the crust was outstanding. I am super picky about crust and this was all around perfect. The taste was just right and the texture was perfect. It was light and airy and just amazing. They have a few other food items and have bottled beer available as well. I will be back to Cordiano for wine and pizza soon!
My oldest friend and his wife were visiting San Diego for the first time. They were staying downtown and doing many of the tourist's activities. To give them a taste of something different, we took them to Cordiano Winery on a late Saturday afternoon in December. We reserved a table to enjoy some wine and pizza. We drank a bottle of merlot and trinity, a mix of sangiovese, cab and merlot. Both were very good. I was a bit surprised the place was only about 40% full. The servers informed me that they were packed the weekend before but that the current temperature (low 60's) had kept some of the crowd away. Fortunately, we had been there before and knew they had patio heaters. It was a beautiful sunset that we enjoyed. One last thing, Cordiano's is the kind of place where the owner checks in with the patrons. We had a chance to talk with Gerardo who informed us he is building a kitchen, allowing the winery to serve more than pizza and salad.
Decided to meet some friends for a mid-week afternoon wine tasting and lunch at this winery after seeing it on TV about a year ago. Hard to believe the landscape and beautiful setting was so near by and the drive was only about 30 min.from home. The owners are so cordial, as are the employees. The tastings are reasonable and the pizza was to die for! Best ever! Came home with a full tummy and a purchased vino favorite. We will return again and again.
We attended a rehearsal dinner at the winery. The setting/scenery was spectacular. It was a little chilly and the event was on the terraces outside. They had patio heaters. The appetizers and dinner were great. It was a fun evening.
Great wine, great view, great service, and great pizza! The tempranillo in particular was very well done.
Being a San Diego native I’m a little ashamed we didn’t stop years earlier to taste their great selection of wines. We stopped at their Julian / Wynola tasting room, the people couldn’t have been nicer or more informative. We enjoy red wine and we weren’t disappointed with their selections.By the end of our tasting we had joined our first Wine Club and purchased a special bottle of wine for a friend’s birthday. We’re looking forward to visiting their actual winery in Escondido, hopefully very soon.
Our friends took us up here and it was as good as promised. Order a pizza, they are wood fired and great. I can't imaging smelling them on the patio and resisting! try to stay for sunset. They are expanding and we will go back soon.
Cordiano sits high atop a hill with a spectacular view, the owners make you feel like you are family. Not only do they have some good wines they have a patio where they serve fresh homemade Pizza's. The pizza is delicious.
My husband and I were staying in San Diego and decided to check out some wineries. Ontaking some advice from our receptionist we set off with a winery map in hand and a sat nav. After quite a few disappointments (it was midweek and most of the others were closed) we stumbled upon Cordianos. As we walked round the house, we had no expectations and thought it was just set in someones house, but on turning the corner into the courtyard it turned out to be a spectacular terrace, with some outstanding scenery of the San Pasqual Valley. We were welcomed by the owners Geraldo & Rosa who were keen to help you out with wine choices, we settled on a very nice Tempranillo and ordered bread sticks and a homemade tomato sauce which was amazing, it was like having a pizza without all the toppings, with homemade canolloni for dessert. We sat there will a view to die for, good food, nice wine and a warm breeze blowing through the vines above our heads. I have to say that it was the most relaxed id felt and well worth the 2 hour run around, and if we werent driving we would have stayed!! Thank you for a very enjoyable experience its a definate must go if you are in that area.
My wife and friends visited this winery and all were less then happy with the experience. On the positive side I can say that the view is indeed exceptional, but then it's all downhill from there. The wine is marginal however, I am sure you would find something palatable. The food is the same as the wine . . . marginal. The staff appeared to be "new" and untrained in customer service. The fact of the manner I think the owner himself was tending to a group of, what appeared to us as, his friends. He could use a few pointers on customer service. The biggest complaint we all had is the "nickel & diming" us to death. EVERYTHING is extra. When we go to places like a winery, we go to relax, drink, eat and enjoy the company of the people with us and I like to know, in advance, what it costs. This did not happen here.
Went there for dinner this week. All of the dining seems to be outdoors. The menu is limited to pizzas and salads. That said, the food was very good. The pizzas are not heavy. The flavors are good. The view there is to die for. We were there for sunset. We will go back.
Cordianos sits on a hill overlooking the San Pasqual Valley. Large patio area to sip your wine, snack on personal pizza & salad, and enjoy the view especially at sunset. Gerry, Rosa, and Francisco make your afternoon or evening most enjoyable. You have many virieties of wines to choose from.
We really enjoyed our time at Cordiano. The views are magnificent and the wine okay. More of a Mediterranean style to them. Which is okay. We like that style. It's a stand up tasting at a bar and it's best to walk around some as you taste. After our tasting we ordered a pizza cooked on the site and made it our evening meal with a glass of their wine. Just a great venue all around. We'd probably go back again if we're ever in the area.
My husband and I go to this winery many times over. The pizza (I think is, THE BEST), fresh, custom and made to order. You can sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine (Cabernet Franc is great) and enjoy the outstanding view. We came across this winery by accident one day a few years back. They are expanding and adding many new dimensions to it that will only enhance your visit (be patient). The owners are very friendly and the customer service is outstanding. They make you feel relaxed and make you feel like you are at home. We are wine club members with them and we have been very happy. Also, they make Tieramasu homemade that is EXCELLENT!
Kind of a work in progress, winery is close to San Diego in the North County. Nice view, OK wine and good pizza. Place could stand a little refurbishing, but it does appear they are working on it. Staff is helpful.
