I would recommend Jimtown Gold Mining camp to anyone that wants to get a real gold panning experience. My elementary school kids were learning about the gold rush so we took a trip to gold country where we met the nice folks at Jimtown Gold Mining Camp. The kids learned so much in school about the gold rush and could not wait to get in the river and do some prospecting. Brent was our gold prospecting teacher for the day and did a great job explaining the history of the area and the whole process of prospecting. When it came time to actually start our own prospecting, he was extremely patient and taught everyone the process. The kids were enthralled with him, he's as genuine as they come, just as if he walked out of the year 1849. After using the pan for awhile, he brought out the Sluice Boxes which speed up the prospecting immensely. We all got the gold fever as we could see gold collecting in the boxes and then we all realized exactly what gold fever really was. You don't actually know what it feels like until you do it, see it, and collect it. These guys did a great job bringing this whole experience to life for us, what a blast!
