Just attended the Pruning Fiesta. The presentation was excellent right @ tasting room/dining facility. Music, tacos & desert were deliciously fresh. Must say their Chardonnay is crispy and light,,,but wait...their petite syrah is one of the best, and..their winemaker is Michael Woods, no wonder. Great evening and their tasting room, kitchen, beautiful facility. Linda & Rick Shieldsdid great job. Thank you
Beautiful building and grounds, even in the winter! Right off the highway, super easy to find. Very knowledgeable people and they make it fun! Loved the steel aged Chardonnay and there Sauvignon Blanc so much we had to take some home!!
If you, like me, long for personalized and unhurried tasting experiences of decades gone by, make a point of stopping at Cache Creek Winery along Highway 20. Nestled in a cozy valley along a meandering creek, this idyllic little spot is the perfect break in a long drive Sacramento to the coast. The tasting room is rustically elegant. From the reclaimed redwood which was once a part of a water holding tank for the city of Clearlake to the etched glass windows depicting the local elk, there are fascinating stories underlying each detail of this well planned space. The wines are fruit forward. While the reds may be held, they are ready for consumption now. The tasting menu included Sauvignon Blanc, several Chardonnays, several vintages of Cab. and a Petite Syrah which was paired with berry infused chocolates. The young women at the bar were charming, knowledgeable about both the wines and the local history, and truly sought to make the tasting experience first rate. We look forward to returning when we can make use of the large patio and Bocce courts.
This new winery is a must stop and see near Clear Lake, Ca. We often travel from our home in the Sacramento Area to Fort Bragg, Ca on the coast along State Hwy 20. The stretch between Williams and Clear Lake in the past offered no place to take a break. Now a beautiful new winery has opened near Clear Lake Oaks and it is very special. The first thing we observed was the elegant exterior architecture, very inviting. Inside we were greeted by two happy and helpful staff members who not only served us the delicious wine but also kept things light and fun. While it is a new tasting room, the wines really were from good to outstanding. Not a single "clunker" in anything we tasted. The wines are low in tannin and have complexity, and you really get the essence of the fruit. We also had a cheese and meat plate which was delicious, generous portion and accented the wines. While we were there the owner came in and gave us a personal tour, what a treat. The interior decor is very special with elegant woods, metals and tile which make you feel warm and actually a bit in awe. Even if wine isn't your thing, the stylish interiors and nice bathrooms and friendly people are worth the stop.
