This place has the beauty of a cliff and spectacular view of the bay and the Golden Gate. The lighthouse is open for limited hours (12:30-3:30pm) for three days a week (sat, sun, mon), so plan accordingly. We didn't get a chance to get inside the light house but even then the views from the cliff overlooking the lighthouse make the journey worth it. It captures the beauty of the city & golden gate like no other place does. It's not much of an elevation but still quite windy out there, so dress accordingly. Lots of free parking available. Restrooms stink so may be just pass using them here. While the address on Maps says Sausalito, this place is really just a stone's throw away from SF. Also adjoining the lighthouse is a small beach, however, you can ditch this beach and visit the more popular Rodeo beach instead which is not too far away from here.

Had missed this place on my trip in '13. A friend mentioned about it in the next trip, and we planned a visit. The drive to lighthouse is a very pleasant one, with pleasant views of the Golden Gate bridge and the Pacific ocean. After reaching the parking, you take a walk to reach the lighthouse. The area has an element of serenity, and offers spectacular views of the Pacific coastline and the SF bay.Go there on a sunny afternoon, and you'll get the most out of it!

Beautiful drive along the coast, have to look for the turn off if you blink you'll miss it. The lighthouse itself is spectular, and as much as I love lighthouses this one is nice, and tall. Built in the late 1800's unforunately you it corded off by a fence, but you can walk all around it and take as many pictures as you like, the ocean views are just as gorgeous. Small hotel on the side with a few bundelos. ENJOY!!

I finally made it out to the lighthouse when it was open! It is a pretty good little hike, about 20 mins or so. Not so bad going, but coming back, one can get a little winded. Stunning and so worth it!! It is a working lighthouse at the entrance of the San Fran Bay. It is only open from 1 until 3 (check to verify) Saturday through Monday. The views are absolutely amazing! There are tour guides waiting to give you a bit of history. Don't forget to look for the gargoyles! If you are in the San Fran area & looking for a beautiful view, cross the bridge into Marion County & take the 1st exit. The whole area is worth a visit investigating former defensive military installation.

This lovely old working lighthouse greets all ships at the entrance of the San Francisco Bay. Worth taking a tour to visit. Great pics while you are there. It has a long history of being operated by our uniformed services. During warm full moon months there are moonlight tours which are great fun.

This is a great place to visit in Marin County. It is about a 15 minutes hike downhill from the parking lot to the light house, but well worth it! The view is absolutely breathtaking. They do close at exactly as advertise and several people after making the hike downhill we turned away at the lighthouse tunnel. The lighthouse is not large in size, but Point Bonita Lighthouse is mostly about the view anyhow.

The drive to the lighthouse is a little long and picturesque. We really enjoyed driving there. Once you get there the walk is short, but a bit steep and includes a bridge and a cave. It is really quite spectacular. On the walk there the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco is awesome. There are seals playing in the water that you can see on the walk there too. They are far since it is pretty high up but its still cool to see. Once you get to the light house it is small and you can't go up to it but there is some information on the inside to read about it and the area which is interesting. The only downside to this place is they are only open for very small periods of time. I think its Sat-Mon 12:30-3:30 so plan accordingly. This was my favorite part of our visit to San Francisco.

Loved the drive to this lighthouse as much as the visit of this historical site! It has beautiful vistas and you can get awesome pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a bit of a steep hike out and back to the site. Good shoes are recommended. There is a docent tour which starts at 12:30 when they open the tunnel to get to the lighthouse. Not an easy visit for very little children who cannot walk far or strollers unless they are 4 wheel drive and you are fit! Well worth the effort in the end!

Point Bonita Lighthouse is located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area which offers many attractions, of which the Point Bonita Lighthouse is just one. The lighthouse is located approximately 0.5 miles down a trail from the nearest parking lot, although during busy times you may have to park in farther away lots that can add up to a mile to your hike. The decent is not terribly steep, but people with difficulty walking should probably skip this attraction. The lighthouse itself is very beautiful, and there are only a couple other places (most within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area) that beat the views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. The museum is not terribly informative, but is worth a visit nonetheless. The convenient cell phone call in placards are actually better for historical information and my girls loved listening to them on speakerphone as we walked.

This truly is one of my favorite places on Earth (and I consider myself fortunate having circumnavigated the northern hemisphere). On a clear day, you can see forever (almost). The fairly mild hike to reach the lighthouse creates interest and intrigue; winding and passing jagged cliffs and rock formations, seeing unusual flora that only grows in this unusual location (frequently whipped by salty mist and high winds from the sea), passing through a tunnel blasted out of solid rock, to reach a view that is stunningly unsurpassed. On this unusual rocky precipice, with the wide-open ocean to the west, the Golden Gate bridge and San Francisco in clear view but a surprising distance to the east... it's all a bit magical. The lighthouse itself is remarkable on its own, historically and architecturally, and its location inspires beyond. Be sure to check the website for very limited hours when the tunnel is open to reach the lighthouse... it is unforgettable. Having been a number of times over years, I always look forward to the treat of a return visit, and surprising friends and visitors who have never been.

Well, hi there visitors. I am in my 50's, healthy but could stand to loose some weight. A nice friend of mine that works for the parks service invited me on an easy walk/hike here. I really loved it! I just wore tennis shoes, you can do it in flat sandals also. There is a grade to walk up from the lighthouse. The views are all special. Just think about it, some people don't live near a beach and they never see anything like this. Take off your music, turn your phone off and just enjoy what nature has to offer. We also went to a near by beach. "Jade", stone allert!!! I found so many pieces of jade on this beach...I have been having such good luck afterwards. I won a $500 scratcher...hope the jade brings you luck too. But, then of course if you come to San Francisco/Marin County, you are lucky enough!!

The views from the parking area are worth the trip, but Bonita Point is something special.I've been to this attraction twice, but the first time the tunnel was closed and locked. The second time it was open, and after a short walk through the tunnel, you're presented with a really cool lighthouse that you can explore. The path that leads to it is every bit as cool. The pathway leading down to all of this is quite steep, so I don't think it would be as appropriate for wheelchairs or older folks, but like I said, the view of the water from the parking area is great.Really groovy suspension bridge on-site and great cliff views from on top, including awesome observation opportunities for seals down on the rocks below. Don't forget your camera!

This is a hidden gem of a place, from where you can see the Golden gate bridge in its entirety. Almost all of the SF city can be seen from here on a clear sunny day. There's a tunnel through which the light house is accessible. This tunnel is open only on select few days/time, so please make sure you reach there in time. I made it with about 5 mins to close time, so didn't get to stay at the light house for a long time. The short walk over the bridge from the land to the light house is thrilling. The wind can be strong gusts. Watch out for those hats. Note that the parking is limited right near the light house entrance, but there's another parking lot before reaching there.

Not to be missed! The drive to the lighthouse gives some of the best views of the Golden Gate and San Francisco. The hike down to the lighthouse is not long, a little steep but very manageable. Bonus views of the coastline. Lighthouse access trail is currently open only Sat. Sun. Mon. from 12:30 to 3:30. Take time to hike out the other way for views of Rodeo Beach.
