The Marin Civic Center Farmers Market in San Rafael is one of the best in the county. If you go every week the vendors become friends and you can find the most delicious produce as well as meat, eggs, and nuts direct from the grower. There is live music, fresh flowers and cooked foods if you need a little snack. The coffee is the best! It's a good feeling all around to support local farmers, some are not so local and drive for hours to supply us with their wonderful products, to serve our family's the healthiest and tastiest foods available. It's an experience that is fun and rewarding in many ways, you can spend hours looking at all that there is to offer and get a great deal of your shopping done for the week while having fun doing it - I highly recommend! Held on Thursdays and Sundays from 8-1. parking is free.
The Marin county Farmers Market, open on Thusday and Sunday mornings (8-1) is famous for quality, exotic fruits and veggies, local cheeses and organic products of all kinds. Chefs from all over the Bay Area shop here. On Sundays there are pony rides and jumpees for the kids and artesinal baked goodies for the adults, as well as one of a kind crafts. Come early as parking can be very challenging as the morning wears on. Cash or credit card and be sure to bring your own bags.
We enjoy our annual trip here and our pilgrimage to the market Since we are doing a show our purchases help us have healthy food while working.
Wonderful produce, both organic and just local; locavore cheeses, sustainably and humanely-raised meats and lots of fish, breads and pastries galore, and the full gamut of ready-made food for munching--plus music in two venues and clothing & jewelry. There are very pricey items, but one can also find some good deals...discernment is required. It seems to be a family weekend activity--wish more people rode bikes to the market as the parking is tight. A previous review used the word "tiny"--that review could NOT be for the Marin Civic Center farmers' market, as it is the third largest in California!
The Sunday morning farmers market in San Rafael at Civic Center is the best in the Bay Area. There are rows and rows of fruit and vegetable venders, a wonder selection of prepared food to eat on the spot or take home and a great craft section. There are several areas musical performers as well. My favorite fish market is there, providing fresh caught salmon. either local, when in season, or from BC available almost year round. There are also several ranches that produce truly free range ranch eggs (not cheap) and if you are so inclined, humanly farmed chicken, lamb, goat and other meats. The market is clean and the wares beautifully presented, so take your camera. Favorite time of year for the market is late spring and summer when you can by sweet corn which was literally picked that morning and brought to market. So Sunday night dinner can be grilled salmon, corn and a really fresh green vegetable. Perfect.
There are too many strollers, kids and "service dogs". The produce is unusual and fresh but on the pricey side. I try to avoid the market except when I need my knives sharpened.
Tiny, overpriced, loud with children's performances.Parking is horrible! The only thing great is the view.
Not only is it a fine farmer's market, but there is a huge variety of places to eat freshly prepared foods of all types. There are bouncy attractions and for the kids on Thursdays and Sundays.
No matter what the season, you'll be surprised at the variety of fresh vegetables and fruits! Along with the known favorites, I've also tried (and enjoyed) many new varieties. There are always samples. I often finish my day there with a chocolate pastry!
What else is there to say? I try to go every Sunday morning, right at 8 when they open. Thursday there aren't as many vendors. My all around favorites are Trocadero & Capay for vegetables. I also love the huge French bakery stand on Sundays (which ironically has excellent German-style pretzels).
Excellent fresh organic produce, great fruit, breads, dairy products and more, great variety!Nice atmosphere with two areas to sit and eat prepared delicious food sold at the back. Live music A great place to go in Marin County!
If you like your produce fresh. This is the place. I particularly like the fruit. They are not shipped long distance so they are picked later which results in a much better tasting fruit.
This market is the largest and best. If you must have fresh produce, eggs, fish, anything, this is the place. And you can ask the farmers what they fertilize with if that's a concern. I love walking around and shopping here. Bring lots of smaller bills and a cart to fill.
Wonderful fresh veggies, fruits, breads, pastries as well as all kinds of coffee drinks, excellent ethnic and American foods from stands, all in a beautiful outdoor setting adjacent to a large, beautiful park.
This is a great farmers market with tons of fresh produce baked good and crafts and its location is great. If you enjoy farmers markets you need to check this one out.
