One of my favorite finds when traveling are the small, quaint wineries in the area. Butterfly Creek is a real gem.We stumbled upon this treasure accidentally and so glad we did. We stopped in the historic part of Mariposa to do a little shopping and walked into The Company Store where we found a great wine bottle holder for friends. In the holder was an empty bottle of wine with a great label. As we purchased the holder we asked about the bottle if he knew where the winery was. Yes, he did and it was owned by friends of his, we had to go.We hit the jackpot! Butterfly Creek is family owned and operated and sell the wines only at the winery. Located off the little two lane road, you will wind down another little country road past the vineyards and beautiful little chapel, keep on going until it ends into a picnic area and converted barn. Here you will find the boutique tasting room. The day we visited Nicki was at the bar. She was great!! We were the only ones there for a bit and she gave us a tour of the winery. Loved it! Some of the barrels are sitting in old stables in the barn, what a great atmosphere. The wines were lovely and make a great table wine. The Rose' is the perfect summer barbecue wine and they are extremely affordable. Off of the tasting room is a little gift room with wine bottle gift tags, unique dips and jams with crackers. We loved tasting and visiting with a few local people that popped in. They have a great picnic area to enjoy your lunch and the family is so friendly and love sharing their wines.Next time you are in the area, find this winery and give it a try, you won't regret it.
I love Butterfly Creek winery and wine choices. They blend beautifully with beef, pork or fish. I am partial to the Cabernet but will gladly take a nice chilled white. I especially enjoy trying their new blends each year.
My husband and I were married in the lovely chapel, and it was the easiest wedding to plan. I am from Texas, and with about five emails from the staff, my wedding was planned. They suggested a photographer and restaurant for my dinner--both were fantastic. This was my first marriage, and I have never been one to dream of an outlandish, expensive wedding. I wanted a very small, no fuss wedding and this was perfect. The chapel is very small, which I loved, and it fit my 17 guest just fine. My dress was pretty big, so the staff arranged the seating along the walls so I could walk down the VERY short "isle." I went to the local grocery stores for flowers and made all my arrangements for the church. I ordered wedding bouquets and boutonnières online at Sams and they were delivered to our rental home the day before the wedding. They were gorgeous. I found a rental home on VRBO.com that sits right above the winery, so all I had to do was hop in the car and drive down the road.We took photos following the ceremony, and you won't find a more gorgeous backdrop for your photos. We also had a wine tasting following the ceremony and we bought all the guest a bottle of the wine of their choice, which was very inexpensive. **BONUS**Your guest also get the luxury of seeing Yosemite National Park, which is what drew me to Mariposa in the first place. It's breathtaking...a must see...that's all I can say. After the wedding, we drove to San Francisco and spent two weeks driving the Pacific Coast Hwy, all the way down to LA. This place is a little piece of heaven, and the people of Mariposa are the salt of the earth.
We read many good reviews of the Butterfly Creek Winery and Vineyard prior to our vacation to Yosemite, so we had to make this special trip. We are so glad we did. We met Bob, very gracious and friendly, knows his stuff. We tasted some wines and I like the white Merlo ofcourse my husband liked every glass that he tasted :)... Need I said more.. We bought a case... Highly recomended From Frankfort, IL.
We were fortunate to be the only couple at the tasting, with others who left as we drove in and another vehicle coming in as we drove out! Be careful as the road is one-way in several spots. Gorgeous setting and yummy wines.
I visited this winery today because I won a one year membership in a raffle. I was able to get six bottles of wine. One for each vintage they produce and 20% off everything in their store. I was the sole visitor and I was treated with respect and courtesy. I highly recommend this hidden jewel. It is well worth the time it takes to drive up the hill to visit.
This wine comes from some locally grown grapes. They offer both red and white wines. The owners are very friendly and informative. You can even join their wine club with quarterly shipments.
Bob and Darlene gerken are stellar folks. The winery is set in a gorgeous valley, and the wine is top notch. We went to attend a friend's wedding and they were nothing but generous, pouring glasses of wine for us to taste test throughout the rehearsal, and the reception. The White Merlot is a very special one, but I like their Zinfandel. Go for the wine, but stay for the scenery and the company.
A little out of the way but worth it. Beautiful picnic area with lots of shade. Their wines are very good and only $10. We will go back again when we are in the area.
We visited upon the suggestion of Jon Pierre of Restful Nest B&B and were so pleased. Bob Gerken, proprietor, was leaving as we drove in, but he turned around and opened his tasting room and told us all about his career change from agricultural banking to rescuing this vineyard and establishing the winery. He is a non-stop talker and very entertaining and informative with a very friendly personality. It was a bonus to me that he is also a gearhead who hosts vintage and custom car gatherings. And, to top it off, we enjoyed his wines, almost filling a box to take with us. A most unique white Merlot is my favorite.
we just got back from an awesome time in Yosemite and decided to visit a winery before returing to Mariposa. we chose to stop at Butterfly Creek and wasn't disappointed. the wine was suited to my liking, dry and bold with a smooth finish. the surrondings were very kozy and the family staff was the kewlest!!! highly recommend stopping and having fun with your tasting. oh yeah we bought wine too!!!
and lovely wine. Please make this a stop, look up directions - off Triangle Road past Mariposa going in to Yosemite. The owner was most gracious - take a picnic and enjoy the creek.
We were given a recomendation for Butteryfly Creek Winery from the lady at the Visitor's Center in Mariposa, it's a fun drive back to the tasting room and there is a pretty little chapel set in the midst of the vineyards on your way to the tasting room that is nice to photograph. The day we were there a wedding reception was being held at the winery. We tasted several very nice wines and also enjoyed browsing through the gift shop here and purchased some Cabernet jam. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about wines and willing to answer any questions you may have about wine.I definitely recommend a visit here when in the Mariposa area. :)
