A friend and I took this 4 hour trip at the end of August on a Thursday morning. The action from sea mammals and birds was non-stop. Excellent biologist guides and they take photos that are available online so you don't have to waste time with a camera. There was a whale that was caught in a crab boat line, and we were able to aid in the rescue by staying there until the patrol arrived. This was my first whaling trip, and I'll never forget it. Perfect weather, perfect waves, and an enjoyable crew and fellow tourists. Highly recommended!
Headed out in the am with clear weather and about 30 total passengers. The crew was knowledgeable and helpful. We saw a school of dolphins (about 50) within about 5 minutes then we saw our 1st humpback within 7 minutes...we were stoked! Well it just kept getting better. The highlight was sitting in neutral for about 45 minutes with 6 humpback whales surrounding the boat nearby as well as sea lions, sea otters, dolphins and all kinds of birds. Thanks for such an exciting tour.
If you want to have an awesome time whale watching this is the crew to do it with. Everyone was so nice and helpful. We saw so much when we went out. I spent two days with them and I would definitely go back and do it again.
Kate and all of the great crew make this trip wonderful. We went on three trips in one week and each was different and a lot of fun. Even though it's called Blue Ocean Whale Watch it truly is so much more. I can't wait to see how they grow. I plan on going back anytime I'm in the area.
We live on the east coast and own a boat. We see dolphins on a regular basis and an occasional whale in the Atlantic. So going on a Whale and Dolphin Watch was sure to be nice while we were by the Pacific. Holy Mammals were we surprised how AMAZING this trip was. It was less than 15 minutes out of the dock when we spotted our first whale.... first of maybe 20? We saw hundreds of sea lions feeding, sea otters, seals, and a giant sunfish. I'm not sure what was more awe inspiring... Humpback Whales zooming skyward and splashing down so close you could actually smell their breath.... (ick) or the hundreds of Long Nose Common Dolphins that surrounded our boat, splashing and torpedoing through and above the water. I shot over 500 images in less than 4 hours..... and most are terrific. That's rare! The Captain and Crew were very knowledgeable about the animals and birds and topography that makes the Monterey Bay such a target area for animal watching. The boat was safe, the people polite and I can't wait to go back. I also loved that they offered free homeopathic motion sickness pretreatment... very nice touch. Nobody was ill on the boat that I saw. Small children were present and enthralled. This is an activity for all ages!
After much review I chose this for our Whale Watching. The people who run it are concerned for everyone and actually take care of you. Come around while the tour is going on checking to see if you are ok or need anything. They really love the job. We saw about 50 whales and about 200 dolphin and also seals and birds of course. Amazing. Best ever.
As my husband said, on a scale of 1 to 10, a TWENTY! We were constantly seeing whales breathing, fin slapping, diving and breaching. The captain did an excellent job of maneuvering the boat so both sides could see all the action. The naturalist was very informative about what we were seeing, and made sure we were all safe, because once we started seeing whales,we were all so excited! The tour was supposed to be 2 hours, but there were so many whales around westayed out for 3 hours! I was very impressed with this company.
I have taken a couple of different Whale watching trips, but none have been as Great as this one. It helped to have a Great day but the boat and all the crew were outstanding. Very informative information narrative and a Great Price. The boat is well setup and even has inside seating if you want it. Great for us Seniors.
We went whale watching last weekend to see the humpbacks that have been prolific in Monterey Bay for the past month or so. We were not disappointed! We started seeing the whales (in addition to sea lions and many birds) almost as soon as we left the harbor. The captain, Jim, and guide (Lauren?) were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this whale watching company. Monterey Bay is beautiful and you're sure to have a good time on their boat.
The two hour tour was more than enough time to see the whales and dolphins for this season. We saw four Killer whales and somewhere between 8-12 Humpback whales. What I like about this company was that they didn't pack their boats with people. While we were out there I saw other whale watching boats that looked like they were going to tip over because they were so full.
$37.00 for a 2 hr tour! Whale spotting guaranteed. Don't waste hours motoring from Monterey or Santa Cruz....the whales are feeding off of Moss Landing. Yes, this is an exceptional year...lots of anchovies in Monterey Bay. And, yes it can be a seasonal thing...so check before you go. And yes, each day is different. On 7/26, 7:30 am, my friends went on this trip and saw whales right off the shoreline. We went on 7/29, 10 am, and the whales were 2 miles out to start; our day ended with a breaching whale about 1 mile out, dolphins, and a whale cruising just off the beach. About mid-way, we were surrounded by whales, seals, and even an elephant seal. Birds in a feeding frenzy in the harbor. Great time. Boat wasn't crowded. Check their webpage for daily pictures. Bring small bills for parking permit $6.00. Fog and choppy water can limit visibility. Pick a morning trip - Winds do pick up in the area in the afternoon. Bring video capability for full recording of activity - stills can be hard to get just the right shot. Sea Otters always present at Moss Landing.
The boat was comfortable. We learned a lot from the naturalist who was onboard. We saw dozens of whales and hundreds of sea lions. The boat was comfortable with a new quiet engine.
We went on July 20th and it was amazing. We heard that this season in particular was really good for humpback whales and the last 3 months there have been tons of whales. No joke--within 5 minutes of leaving the harbor we saw a whale.. in fact, people were watching from the harbor. The entire~4hr trip we saw whales everywhere. At one point, we were surrounded by a group of maybe 6 whales. The trip concluded with this one whale that kept breaching (jumping out of the water) over and over again. So amazing. The staff was really cool. On time, relaxed, and had fun. They also have one of the only boats with a top deck (I think only one other company has a top deck). The top deck, while a bit shakier, has amazing 360 views so it makes it easy to see the whales. There are only 8 people allowed at a given time, so people took turns (it worked out well, I got to go up twice). The staff also had food in the cabin below (bars, snacks, instant noodles) that you could buy for a $1/piece based on the honor system.Great experience! Great crew and boat! We also used our Groupon and I'm still shocked at the value we got out of this!
We've been on whale watching tours in the past, but this one blows them all away! The staff was great, friendly, experienced and funny! We saw so many whales, pelicans (my favorite), dolphins, seals, etc. A great trip, we'll be back as soon as we can and I can't recommend it enough!
Great excursion with very knowledgeable naturalist-guide. We encountered a pod of killer whales moving in such synchronicity and had some awesome views of humpbacks doing a lot of tail tapping. A whale watcher's dream come true !
