The views are very nice, but the course and the greens need a lot of TLC - essentially no practice area and rudimentary snack bar. Prices are low, carts are needed, and it is ok. I definitely think it must have been pretty in its day, but the course is not in good shape as of march 2015. The round took over 5 hours on a relatively short course because a couple of 3 balls were playing at a snails place 3 groups ahead. No marshall - so we just enjoyed the weather and views. We stopped at the turn for a bite - a cup of tuna is just that - a cup that has had tuna out of a can poured into it and a couple chunks of tomato on top - $5.00 - yuk. The girl at the counter was obsessed in a conversation about a party with the pro - we kind of just waited until eye contact with the pro and he told her to help us. Well it is what it it. There are a lot of very nice courses in the area - this one is just average.
When I retired, moved to a home near the 12th tee at this magnificent golf course. The house is far enough away from the tee that I do not have to dodge wayward golf balls while enjoying tea or a glass of wine. The course is a challenge, but fun to play. Recommend a golf cart on this GC. And, if you have a tendency to slice the ball off the tee, strongly suggest you use an iron versus a driver. This golf strategy will save you from having to climb up and down hillsides searching for your golf ball.
There is a lot of elevation change on this course. The view on almost every hole is breathtaking. A driver is rarely necessary. this is real target golf. The cost is extremely reasonable. The golfing experience far outweighs the fairway condition.
Great scenic course. Very difficult golf with a couple of blind holes. Challenging, but worth it. A little pricey, but what good courses aren't?
Enjoyed a fantastic round on a beautiful San Diego Sunday. The pro was so helpful and got me a good deal on a tee time and club rental.Very interesting and challenging layout despite not being that long - irons off the tee recommended. Views are great all the way round. The course was in average (tee boxes and fairways) to good (greens) condition.Thoroughly recommended.
Mt Woodson has all the aspects I love in a golf course.Gorgeous beautiful vista's and perchs throughout the course.Beautifully maintained, plenty of water to drink.Challenging holes, unreal winding bridges that are like a being on a ride at an amusement park.Almost ZERO houses on the course, super private and scereneGreat Players Club Early Bird deal - For $39 a year you can play for $25 including a cart early weekdays. The location is a bit out of the way, 5 miles before Ramona along the 67, so you will have a few grades and winding roads to deal with. Watch for the signs, since the turn to the golf course is in the middle of a big round turn in the road and it is easy to miss (on the left if coming from Poway to Ramona).
This course is hands down my favorite in San Diego. This is what cowboys experienced when they golfed in the old west ;). Everything from incredibly long, challenging holes, to technical par 3's. But best part of all is the cart path that skirts a boulder through an oak grove, suspending you over the valley below. If you hit it at the right time of year you can even find a nice snack in the wild berries that grow along the cart path.
Had to play the front twice as they punched the greens, some great holes on this gem in the hills, good prices, but charged as much as a round for an extra bag..never mind that , thanks but no thanks.
Mt Woodson golf course is a fun track--friendly and funky. The routing fits the land, but means some of the holes are kind of tricky the first time around. Sited in an interesting geological area with hills and boulders, the course offers lovely views. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Good price and good golf.
The golf was great. Unfortunately, the GPS in the carts didn't start working until half way through the round. The course was great. It was a little wet from wet night, but the weather was great. if you hit the ball straight on a regular basis, this might be a easy course. I do not have a problem with hitting the ball straight on a regular basis and lost several balls. This course is definitely worth the drive and great for ~$50 a round.
I have only been there to go to a wedding at the Amy Strong Castle which is on the grounds, but my husband has golfed there and said it was really a nice course. The area is very pretty with well tended grounds, oaks and flowers. There is a small lake area with a stone bridge at the entrance. I would recommend the Mt Woodson Country Club as a venue for parties or weddings and for a beautiful and challenging golf course.
If you enjoy the game of golf but want something a bit different than the basic flat land that most have, this is for you. Built into the side of a rock mountain, it has ups and downs; up and arounds, and down and arounds. It also has over canyon shots and through valley holes. But, don't go too far off the fairway to look for errant balls - there are snakes and poison ivy. My grandson and I love this course, which takes just a bit longer to play than the "normal" course. If you are looking for a challenge and some change of scenery, give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Golfed 2-7-2013 the fairways were very bad but the greens were in good shape. Looked like they had not put much money in the fairways. It was still a fun short track to play. Just an FYI
This is a very challenging golf course with some of the most beautiful scenery in San Diego. A short drive up the mountain offers magnificent views, unique boulder formations, woods, canyons, and a precarious wooden bridge - Mt Woodson is just a wonderful, affordable golf experience!
Great views from the course, membership makes it worth the play due to the discount. When not stacked up with back to back tee times it truly is one of my favorite courses to play in San Diego. Great for all levels, even though some holes are target golf.
