We were told not to miss this place, and had planned on visiting at some point during our stay, but we bumped into this as we were just driving around exploring before we headed to Julian. We ended up cutting into our day at Julian because the wines were great and we just love the view of the Ramona Valley. Be sure not to miss this place - it is wondeful.
We visited Turtle Rock on a cold/windy Saturday in December 2014. Contrary to other info found on-line, they have recently enclosed an indoor tasting room and had put up some temporary plastic to enclose a large seating area on the side patio (with heaters). Both were comfortable from the wind and heated nicely. The indoor (permanent room) has seating at the bar for 6, and several tables with chairs. The temporary enclosed patio had 4-5 large tables that sat up to 10 or 12. They also have a lot of tables outside in the sunshine for 4-6.They have nice wines here, we liked all but one (which was a preference thing, not a quality issue). All of their wines were drinkable (most were red). They have a large outdoor patio with a gorgeous view of the valley and above is their name sake, Turtle Rock. Warm months would be wonderful here to enjoy a picnic and their wine. The folks behind the counter were friendly and it was a nice place to stop while wine tasting. There is plenty of parking and it was easy to find with signage from the road.We started next door at La Finquita, then hit Turtle Rock, went to Vineyard Grant James and ended at Milagro Farms. Nice trip from San Diego through Ramona on our way to Julian. We usually wine taste in Temecula and decided to give Ramona a try. We will be back.
