I personally don't drink...so why would I be in a bar. Because in Randsburg this is the ONLY place to be & to meet with the locals. Olga was the person who lit up the place, and her frailness was outshined by her polite ways and remembrance of how things used to be in Randsburgs heyday. The Whitehouse Saloon is for the thirsty bikers & quad riders on the weekends - But THE JOINT, is where you warm yourself by the fireplace, enjoy a drink and peoples company in a town that I dearly miss...Mac
Very fun place to go and share a drink and they have a menu from the neighboring restaurant who will actually deliver it into the bar! Fire is lit in the winter. What a place.
As a patron of many fine dive bars, I can say with confidence, The Joint is one not to miss. A unique spot in a special town. If you get into the spirit of Randsburg then this is where you'll want to go for your spirits.
Unfortunately Olga passed away recently, her daughter Bernadette is running the place for now. This place is awesome, she is very friendly and happy to tell you the history of the bar, as well as Randsburg. I've been coming to Randsburg for years, and always passed up "The Joint" to go to the White house saloon for some reason. This wont happen anymore. Nothing wrong with the White House, but the atmosphere is a bit more friendly at "the Joint". I definitely recommend giving Bernadette a visit!
What is there not to like about this true ghost town saloon? Yes, I can totally see a drunken cowpoke getting tossed out of the plate glass window by the bartender--and richly deserving it...
My girlfriend and I stopped by here when we were on a 3 week long roadtrip in the US. And this was just a fantastic place to stop for a beef and some beef jerky! Im so glad that theese places still exist, and to stop at a place like this is so much more rewarding than stopping at a chain-restaurant/bar. The bartender was very talkative and friendly, so were the locals.
Stopped in to see Olga at the Joint October 14, 2010...See wasn't there, she was getting rest for her birthday party the next day! 99 according to her daughter who tends bar, tells stories, and throws out the drunks...even at noon! Sad News, Cowboy Bob passed away - WWII and Korean War Hero - his medals are on display at the Joint and the General Store.....The Joint is the place to be when you roll through Randsburg....Say Hi to Olga, have a beer and play a game of pool. Enjoy the history that surrounds you, talk to the locals in the bar - they're more than happy to tell you about the good old days and the celebs that have passed through over the years. Grab a burger at the General Store and take it all in!
Last weekend Olga sat with myself and three friends. She said she was 97,8. Her son from behind the bar said "Mom 98".Olga has a great heart and spirit. I asked her to sit with us and she told me right away "I'm not available". She told us some great stories about herself, her family, "The Joint", and the mining in Randsburg. What a find after driving by there for the last 40 years on the way to the Sierra's.
Olga purchased the bar in 1955 with her now deceased husband Ray Guyett. She helped run the bar then and still runs it to this day. She will be 97 years old this September 2008. She is a treasure of desert knowledge, and has been my friend since 1977 when I first came to Randsburg. The bar serves simple mining town drinks. A “beer and a shot” is the normal fare. There are no Pina Colladas, Long Island Ice T’s or other froo-froo drinks. You can get a good selection of beer, wine, bourbon, tequila, gin, or rum. The bar is open Thursday through Sunday from about 11:00 AM through about 7 or 8 PM, or as long as Olga decides to keep it open.Randsburg John
A tiny dive bar in the middle of a desert ghost town--what could make for a better story? Olga is a tiny, red-headed, 96 year-old devout Catholic who will throw out any loud and obnoxious dunks without a second glance. You don't come here for the drinks, you come to meet a legend.
The living ghosttown of Randsburg is really worth a visit. There are still hundred people living there, some of them gather every day in the local pub, runned by a very special women named Olga, who is 95 (!) years old and still going strong. Meet local hero Cowboy Bob (81 years old) and all the other very friendly villagers at The Joint, stroll around through history and stay in one of four very charming rooms in the Cottage Hotel. An experience you will never forget!
Sicuro!
